Hannah Shultz has a BA from the University of Iowa and an MA from the School of International Service at American University. In high school, she spent a year in southern Peru and her understanding of food radically changed when she asked for strawberries and was told they couldn’t get them because strawberries weren’t in season. That experience has been more transformational than she could have imagined at the time.Hannah’s early professional ambitions were to become a war photographer. As she began college, this shifted to an intense focus on peace and conflict resolution. In graduate school, much of her research centered on public health. She has worked in public health research, for a global climate organization, the National WIC Association, bridged academia to practice at the UI College of Public Health, and now works at Feeding America. She sees public health as a peace building tool and knows we cannot achieve peace until everyone has the food that nourishes their bodies and their souls.Hannah has served on the boards of Salvadoran Enterprises for Women, the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation, was co-chair of the Iowa Public Health Association Advocacy Committee and the Council on the Status of Women at the University of Iowa, and is currently an Iowa City Public Library Trustee and member of the Johnson County Food Policy Council, and Field to Family board.In her free time, Hannah enjoys biking, swimming, cooking, baking, reading, visiting breweries, and spending time with her husband, AJ, and their terrible terriers: Boji, Annie, and Penny Lane.
