About Hannah M. R. Burrows

As a Psychology M.Sc. candidate specializing in Cognitive Neuroscience at Queen’s University, my academic and research endeavours are deeply rooted in exploring the intricate connections between cognition and social behaviour. Working in the Social Cognition Lab under Dr. Kuhlmeier, I am actively engaged in expanding our understanding of human-dog interactions, a field that bridges psychological theories with real-world applications. My commitment to experiential learning and community impact is demonstrated through my leadership in a collaborative project with Little Forests Kingston and my co-founded company, To Help You Reach Knowledge (THRK). In my graduate research, I maintain this community-centric approach, working closely with dog trainers and handlers to integrate cognitive psychology principles for enhancing the welfare and effectiveness of working dogs.I am a proud recipient of the SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship Master’s Award and the Tri-Agency Recipient Recognition Award, acknowledgments of my dedication to impactful research. My entrepreneurial spirit has been recognized through my venture, THRK, which focuses on making financial literacy and education more accessible. This venture not only earned me a top undergraduate presentation award at the Inquiry @ Queen’s Research Conference but also led to a significant achievement: winning the Top Undergraduate Paper in the 2023 FCAC Building Better Financial Futures Challenge. This accolade brought the opportunity for national recognition and stakeholder engagement with my publication on Canada.ca.In collaboration with a team of inspiring women in STEM, I am piloting a module-based program aimed at demystifying the process of applying for scholarships and budgeting for post-secondary education. This initiative, supported by Queen’s QYourVenture program, is a testament to our commitment to equitable education. My academic journey began with a BSc (Honours) in Psychology from Queen’s University, where I also contributed significantly to autism spectrum disorder research. Now, as a senior member of the Add*Ed- Queen's Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Group, I continue to contribute as the group's appointed Mentorship Coordinator. My roles as a referee in competitive ringette, a Residence Life Assistant, and a Teaching Assistant in cognitive neuroscience courses further reflect my diverse skills and dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive educational environment. For more information on my academic and professional journey, feel free to contact me on LinkedIn.
