In the course of the Master's Thesis:The Société Immobilière du Cap-Vert in Dakar, Senegal: a spatial analysis of the French colonial housing policy and its afterlife.This master’s thesis elaborates on the urban densification and spatial appropriations in a selected number of neighbourhoods in Dakar, Senegal. More precisely, we aim to analyse the typical postcolonial urban phenomenon of spatial appropriation in the SICAP neighbourhoods of Dakar, while taking notice of the broader context of rapidly densifying urban tissue and relating it to its original, colonial, design context.In the first volume of work, we examine SICAP’s role in further implementing the segregational housing policy, which existed in Dakar since the colonization, most prominentlyduring the interwar period.
