Clinical AudiologistDuring my 5 years at NB Hearing, I gained valuable experience in diagnostic assessment and management of mainly adult patients. I had the opportunity to use my skills as an audiologist to serve our local community with educational talks and philanthropic outreach initiatives. I also gained experience in the administrative management of a busy private practice. I was invited, as guest-lecturer, to provide the industry lecture on Audiology and hearing to first and second year students at the Academy of Sound Engineering (Cape Town).

Upon completion of my community service year, I was fortunate to join a thriving private practice in Pretoria. I gained valuable experience in diagnostic hearing assessment and the fitting of a wide range of hearing aid brands (or manufacturers).

I completed my community service year at the Speech Therapy and Audiology Department at Chris-Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg. I was a core team member of the Adult Audiology team and a support team member of the Paediatric Audiology team. I was also the deparment's Triage coordinator, charged at managing the screening clinic being referred to from other allied medical and rehabilitative services within the hospital. I was also the Ward-Audio and Emergency ENT (Ear-Nose-and-Throat) coordinator for in-patients admitted to the hospital wards, requiring urgent diagnostic audiological management e.g. Pre-operative diagnostic assessments, MDR-TB and XDR-TB monitoring. I gained valuable experience in the areas of Diagnostic Audiology, Electrophysiological hearing assessment, Vestibular assessment, Tinnitus management and assessment, Aural rehabilitation and hearing aid fitting, Hearing aid verification (REMS) and validation (Functional Gain). I was part of a large, multi-cultural department and gained invaluable experience in managing interpersonal professional relationships across a wide range of cultural backgrounds. The demographic location of the hospital also provided me with a rich experience in different African cultures and languages. This was a life changing experience.
