Experience Highlights include:1. Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan- heavy course load in structural analysis, thermodynamics, dynamics, and mathematics.2. Many years’ customer HELPLINE support and consultancy experience for computer-aided engineering and design software.3. Numerous courseware development projects. Lead product trainer for Finite Elements, dynamics, non-linear analysis, interactive graphics, 3-D CAD.4. Registered Professional Engineer.Specifically, I have a great deal of experience in Finite Element Modeling and the analysis of structures subjected to the entire spectrum of loading, static and dynamic. My experience with the following packages is extensive: ABAQUS; HYPERMESH; ANSYS; NASTRAN.My machine experience includes: PC’s; SGI Workstations; and IBM Mainframes. The challenges of developing innovative approaches to solve customer product performance issues have been a source of great enjoyment for me. I’ve been a key-player in new product development, major account acquisition, and training/support functions for customer satisfaction. My hardware/software background makes me thoroughly “computer-literate”. That, along with my verbal/written skills, could make me a strong contributor to your product development team. It is important for me, at this stage in my career to work with a team of experts on a project that has a clearly-defined expectation to generate an important revenue stream for the company. My favorite assignments have been those that created such unexpected synergies that hard work became exhilaration and not a chore. I would like to continue residing here in Southeast Michigan. My daughter is a student at the University of Michigan (continuing the family tradition!). I do enjoy travel and have traveled extensively in Europe. Work responsibilities that call for up to 25% travel time would be appealing.Specialties: Finite Element ModelingFinite Element AnalysisDynamic Loads AnalysisLarge Deflection Contact AnalysisLaser Vibrometer Operation

Application EngineerPolytec, Inc. Feb 2009 - Oct 2009In training as an Application Engineer to support Polytec's Laser Vibrometer hardware. The laser vibrometer is fascinating technology that uses the Doppler Effect from a laser beam that's reflected from a vibrating surface to compute the surface's normal velocity. This velocity signal can then be processed to compute acceleration and displacement (differentiated velocity/integrated velocity). This information in tern gives vibration frequency and mode shape information. The vibrometer motion detection occurs without making contact with the test object, so does not affect the response.I was terminated because of the bad economic situation in SE Michigan which delayed setting up a planned three-axis, full auto body laser scanning system. -
Senior Application AnalystFederal-Mogul Jan 2000 - Aug 2008Sole piston ring pack performance analyst for Federal-Mogul, North America. Supported proposed piston ring pack solution proposals for Heavy Duty, Automotive, and Small Engine customers in the form of written reports, PowerPoint presentations, and software demonstrations. Objective of analyses is to generate reliable predictions for gas blowby, friction loss, and oil consumption through sensible assumptions and correlation with dynamometer test. • Applied LMS (Leuven, Belgium/Troy MI) Optimus “shell” around the Ricardo (Shoreham UK./Belleville, MI) Ringpak software to produce Optimal Response Surface performance evaluations for a customer’s engine from collections of ranged design parameters. This permitted the detailed evaluation of the interaction effects of ring/piston dimensional changes on performance, such as friction loss reduction.• Validated “gapless” Top Ring results and demonstrated that blowby improvement is inversely proportional to the severity of the bore distortion. Correlation of predicted/measured “gapless” ring blowby values could be used to evaluate the severity of engine bore distortion.• Developed a Hexagonal Element piston ring/bore contact model approach on ABAQUS (Providence, RI/Northville, MI) that has been used to compute ring face/cylinder bore contact pressure, plastic stress during ring “coining”, ring twist under Combustion Pressure load, and ring stresses created during engine assembly operations. The results provide a full three-dimensional picture of ring behavior for stress and sealing behavior.• Used AVL (Graz, Austria/Plymouth, MI) and Ricardo analysis software simulation with FEA-derived bore expansion models to demonstrate that significant blowby flows originate with gas leakage from the exhaust-turbo. Dynamometer testing with split flow measurement confirmed turbo-leakage flows as high as 60%.

Senior Technical Support EngineerAutomated Analysis Corporation Jun 1997 - Dec 1999Automated Analysis is a Finite Element Consultancy and Contract Engineering firm started in the late 70’s by University of Michigan Aerospace Engineering Professor, William J. Anderson (I was his student). The firm held ANSYS Distributorships for southeast Michigan and Chicago.ANSYS Hotline support provider for southeastern Michigan region. Specialist in CAD translation and Non-Linear simulations. Course Instructor for Dynamic and Non-Linear Analysis. Business Development Engineer for Project Consulting. The automotive industry-specific client base included firms such as Ford Visteon, General Motors, Eaton, Federal-Mogul, and Borg Warner Corporations.• One year contract engineering assignment at Ishikawa Gasket (Novi, MI). Developed ABAQUS non-linear analysis models for multilayer-steel head gaskets for Ford production proposals. Developed a simulation to evaluate how sealing is compromised by the presence of small thickness metal filings on the gasket face. Verified by test.• Converted Ford Motor Company ANSYS Training materials from a batch submittal basis to the new interactive graphic based processing method. Step-by-Step instructions and computer images totaled out at more 300 pages. Completed in 5 weeks.
