Next to these specific platform and product releases many other accessories and products (both hardware and software) were developed and released to the market.In parallel to executing the programs in the portfolio also the yearly portfolio definition (budget) was managed. Significant improvements in project execution were made: e.g. progress monitoring, roll-out of Critical Chain project management using ProChain tooling.

Managing an international group of product managers across 3 sites: Brno (Czech Republic), Hillsboro (Oregon, USA) and Eindhoven (Netherlands) responsible for the development of 3 product platforms: SEM, SDB and WDB. These products and platforms serve multiple markets: Materials Science, Life Science, Oil and Gas, Mining and Semiconductor industry.The main challenge was to successfully align product roadmaps with multiple Business Units (serving multiple markets). Frequent end customer contacts (VIP event in Japan, conferences, participating in customer demoes, customer visits) helped develop a sound product vision and strategy, supporting this alignment.

Managing the high-end SEM and SDB products (Nova NanoSEM, Magellan SEM and Helios SDB) by aligning the product roadmaps across multiple Business Units, managing field escalations, the manufacturing ramp-up and the development process.

Managing the project execution of various systems projects: Strata, Nova Nanolab, Helios Nanolab, Magellan. In parallel the following module projects were managed: Helios Electron column development, UHR stage development. The biggest challenge for these projects was to transfer the technology development into product development (concurrent engineering): timely communicating the risks being taken to all involved stakeholders was a key factor to the success.

Responsible for developing (and maintaining) new detectors for SEM and SDB microscopes.A new ESEM detector technology was developed in cooperation with Cambridge University (UK). This led to US patent US6972412 B2.In parallel to developing new detector technology also various projects were executed releasing new detectors to market. Many of these projects also required a close collaboration with various suppliers in the UK (e.g. KE Developments) and the US (EDAX)

Worked on secondary electron emission properties of materials for flat panel displays.Initially involved in the development of the “Zeus display” (a display “start-up” within Philips). This work was carried out as a replacement for the 14 months’ compulsory military service in the Netherlands at that time.Worked on dynamic compaction of High-Tc superconductors. Determined physical properties through various measurements in cooperation with Leiden university and the University of Amsterdam (VU).
