VPRO Backlight is a weekly documentary series on public television in the Netherlands with a future affairs focus. I work as a freelance director, doing also research on my own episodes as well as some of the shooting and editing. All the episodes I made can be watched online. In 2014 I made the film 'Zero-Days' about the legal trade in security leaks which led to parliamentary questions asked to minister of homeland security Ivo Opstelten. The film featured an exclusive interview with Hacking Team, my correspondence with the company later got leaked via Wikileaks. In 2015 I dove into the Bitcoin-mania, making 'The Bitcoin Gospel' about the impact of crypto-currencies and the underlying Blockchain technology. My film 'Cyberjihad' revealed the workings of the ISIS propaganda machine and was selected as Emmy submission in the category documentary/current affairs for The Netherlands in 2017.

Together we're using the great possibilities of storytelling as a tool to inspire and motivate people and to create purposeful, human centric cultures within companies.

As a speechwriter for Great Communicators I coach public speakers from conceptualization to final spoken text. I've written speeches for executives, academics and TEDx speakers. With my background as a filmmaker I bring a cinematic touch to speechwriting: creation of suspense, strong visualization and a deep understanding of dramatic structure. I belief that writing a perfect speech is a transformative journey for the speaker and I love to guide this process.

For the EO I directed two in-depth documentaries about religion and religious identity. One film "The Invisible Friend" was about my own spiritual journey, about the process of growing up in a deeply Christian family and departing from orthodoxy. During the making of this film I experienced the transformative power of storytelling: by telling my own story, I got closer to where I want to be in life. Film and storytelling were a catalyst for growth. I now call this philosophy of 'becoming by telling' the 'inner story' and practice it as a method with clients in coaching and speechwriting.

'De Keuringsdienst van Waarde' is a succesfull Dutch documentary series investigating the food industry. Thorough journalism is combined with entertaining, human interest storytelling revealing the funny, fascinating and sometimes shocking reality behind products in the grocery store.

Rotterdam

Directing and editing around 40 human interest items for a weekly television programme on local television. Items were mostly shot in one day and edited the next, introducing me to the tight deadlines of ENG television.

As an intern to MEP Albert-Jan Maat (CDA) I was responsible for drafting amendments to legislative texts, attending and summarizing committee meetings, drafting press releases and maintaining contacts with lobby organizations and NGO's. I also conducted my own discursive research on the common argicultural poclicy (CAP) on which I wrote my MA thesis.
