Our core mission is to empower patients by optimizing the utilization of their health data, facilitating both primary and secondary applications on a large scale.In our distinct roles, Filip adeptly manages data science, software development, support, devops, quality, and certification, while my focus remains on steering the company's trajectory through fundraising, financial management, sales, marketing, communication, growth strategy, and human resources.Although this journey experienced a brief pause due to my involvement in the challenging and rewarding work with the HDA in 2022-2023, we are now back in full operation as of January 2024. We anticipate a period marked by achievements, positive testimonials, innovative solutions, and compelling showcases in the months ahead. In November 2021, I initiated an in-depth analysis of the landscape surrounding the Secondary Use of Health Data in Belgium. Following the comprehensive analysis, together with active experts in key institutes, we strategically presented the findings and proposed plan to key officials, including leaders from prominent Belgian health organisations, the Minister of Health, Prime Minister, and Minister of Digitalisation. Successfully securing the project, we spearheaded the fundraising efforts, securing a substantial 3-year funding commitment at €6 million per year.Subsequently, I orchestrated the development of a detailed roadmap, formulated work packages, recruited the initial team of consultants, implemented foundational frameworks, set up the governance, and actively contributed to the drafting of the Belgian Law on Secondary Use of Health Data. This legislative initiative landed in March 2023 in Parliament as an approved law and paved the way for the establishment of the Belgian Health Data Agency, a groundbreaking institution in the country. The initial use cases were tested with the integration of an open-source data catalog.Ensuring comprehensive engagement, the governance structure involved the collaboration of the 5 core institutes (RIZIV, Sciensano, FOD, KCE, FAGG & FOD) alongside the Cabinet of Health and various stakeholders, including patient organisations, hospitals, pharmaceutical entities, research institutions, and tech industries.The initial plan was to dedicate 12 months to laying the foundation for the HDA and then transition out but the ambitious project required 18 months. In July 2023, I transferred my role as program manager and I continued to contribute as an advisor and content expert until December 2023.
