I studied Electronics at a Technical University, which skilled me in thinking in abstract and gave me a solid base for analysis. During my study I was very much attracted by computers and automation, so I started in a position with Nationale-Nederlanden (which later merged to ING Group). The first challenge was to get a working distribution setup for OS/2 software to support 2000+ installations (in 1994) and we succeeded by rigorous structure and governance within the team. Switching to a software distribution solution for Windows NT was a much smaller challenge, but with the team I succeeded there as well. I decided to move into the middleware arena and started as a teamleader to lead a team of MQSeries specialists and as a project manager to implement a monitoring tool (Candle Command Center) which nobody seemed to be able to get done, 5 attempts before had failed. I finished the project and added the tooling to streamline configuration of the connectivity items. The next step was to architect and implement the ground work for the IFSA Application Bus, a predecessor of those ESB's that currently are the buzzword. Liking the architect role, I moved into a new challenge as the lead architect for middleware, which now included connectivity in a broad sense, databases, application servers, directory servers, entitlement infra, ERP packages, etc. In this role I am accountable and responsible to define the architecture and roadmaps for these areas as well as reviewing the various physical architectures that are built upon these by implementation projects. Furthermore my current challenge is to drive the architecture for the SOA/BPM/EAI implementation based on market standards.Specialties: Architecture, Middleware, Mobile Payments

Enterprise Architect Challenge & Growth CountriesIng Feb 2014 - Nov 2018Amsterdam, North Holland, NlC&G Architecture helps several ING Countries and prepares proposals for convergence and standarisation. As a part of the assignment I proposed an ING Group solution for Shared Mobile Payments and that became my main activity during this assignment. As the lead architect over a mult-national team of developers and architects it is a great experience. Currently the solution supports multiple payment schemes and third party wallets (currently live with Google Pay, Apple Pay and HCE in Poland, HCE in Romania and HCE in The Netherlands). The backlog is filled with other ING countries looking to board. -
Enterprise Architect Shared Technology ServicesIng Nederland Jan 2008 - Feb 2014Amsterdam Zuidoost, NlIn 2008 I was one of the two architects responsible to drive the SOA/BPM initiative based on TIBCO technology. ING has a complex landscape where integration and isolation is a necessity to be able to migrate to a more sustainable application and infrastructure setting. The implementation for SOA/BPM is based on an infrastructure that has private cloud as a basis. The architecture encompasses the implementation and integration of the infrastructure components, the Center of Excellence, the usage patterns and the security. The infrastructure consists of the hardware (blades, storage, network), the virtualisation layer (based on VMWare), the management tooling (HP OpenView, HAWK), the TIBCO middleware (iProcess, iDecissions, Active Matrix, BusinesWorks, etc), WebSphere, Oracle DB and the TIBCO development tooling. In 2010 the department “Shared Technology Services” was formed and I was assigned the architecture responsibility, becoming Sr. Architect and a part of the management team. Next to SOA/BPM the responsibility for test tooling and methodology was added to the mix, For SOA/BPM I lead a team of solution architects that assist projects in applying SOA/BPM and review the Solution Architectures. I also train and manage a junior architect, both due to the amount of activities as to ensure continuity. For test tooling and methodology I helped to design service offerings for secure code review and data masking and aided in consultancy. -
It Architect MiddlewareIng Nederland Jan 2003 - Jan 2012Amsterdam Zuidoost, NlLead architect is a role within ING that is directly appointed by the CTA and is held accountable and responsible for the architecture. I was appointed to play that role for connectivity middleware, databases, directory servers, ERP packages, Application Servers, Web technology and Entitlement infrastructure. The job also meant steering a group of collegues on delivering the architecture documents and managing the relation between the architecture and the design. In the area of connectivity middleware a large program was started in 2005 to investigate market solutions for BPM and SOA, to replace the current connectivity solutions like IFSA Application BUS (based on IBM's MQSeries, see my job profile for teamleader middleware). Due to the strategic importance of the program, I am fully involved in defining the architect and working closely with the vendors (System Integrator and Product vendor). -
Teamleader MiddlewareIng Nederland Jan 2000 - Dec 2002Amsterdam Zuidoost, NlManaging a team of specialists on connectivity middleware, with the focus on IBM WebSphere MQ. The team expanded from 3 to 20 FTE in this period due to a large demand for our services. Next to managing the team, I also ran a project to implement monitoring tooling, implement the governance around that. Furthermore the groundwork for the ING Financial Services Architecture Application Bus was done in this period. The underlying MQ architecture and design was developed by me. -
