Democratic Staff Director, Tom Lantos Human Rights CommissionU.S. House Of Representatives 2008 - 2011U.S. Congress• Appointed Democratic Staff Director of the newly created Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in the House of Representatives (H. Res. 1451, 110th Congress) by Co-Chairman Representative James P. McGovern (D-MA). Worked on all aspects of the creation of this congressional entity, including the drafting of the establishment legislation, the bylaws, the budget request and budget justification. Oversaw all Commission hearings, the drafting of human rights legislation originating in the Commission, such as the Justice for Sergei Magnitsky Act of 2010 (later passed as the Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act, Public Law 112-208), and provided expert advice to all Members of Congress and their staffs on human rights matters. Initiated and led all Commission staff travel to investigate international human rights issues. Worked closely with all human rights-relevant offices at the Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Justice. Represented the Commission and its Members at human rights conferences, classified briefings, and in the media. -
