Teaching: I find deep satisfaction teaching interdisciplinary course where technology, human and organization meet. I am fascinated about human behaviour in complex systems. The courses I teach include Software Process, Requirements Engineering, Software Architecture (until 2015, mainly with Prof. Dr. Hans van Vliet).Research: my research interest is in finding systematic evidence based methods to do Requirements Engineering and Software Development on large scale. Keywords: decision making, learning, coordination, planning, scenario thinking, agile, failed cases, best practices.Learning: I have deep dived in how people learn, and how to facilitate that. For years I organize seminars where researchers share their knowledge with lecturers. I have actively experimented with new methods on different levels. I setup a variety of excellent educational programs, courses and workshops.Management: since 2011 I head the lecturer group, that was formed as part of a major re-structuring of our institute. The team consists of 18 – 30 senior lecturers. I also have management roles in our education programs.Business Development: Right after the MH17 incident I build up a partnership with Russian Innopolis University (university.innopolis.ru/en/), an ambitious IT university in a newly founded IT city, resulting in a top UvA master program now being taught at IU.I also setup the minor programming (mprog.nl) with Martijn Stegeman. An excellent program where hundreds of students each year learn how to program, using open educational resources and the concept of inverted class room.With Tim Doolan and Wouter Vrielink created the minor AI.

SPider (st-spider.nl) is a Dutch network for IT professionals focused on software process improvement. I organized several workshops and conferences, including: “How to stop doomed IT projects”, Testdag.nl 2016 and the agile track in the 2015 Software Engineering conference of Bits&Chips. I actively experimented with new ways to involve the audience.

Helping Sebastiaan Herman setup Second Company (secondcompany.nl) – doing software development in China- Co-designing new process for software development in China with Sebastiaan. Making the developers end to end responsible for development for Dutch clients. This is enabled by smart control processes; facilitating requirements process by vision, architectural outline and coaching on the job; and an intensive HR process focusing on getting accomplished mediors and making them part of the 2c family. - Coaching consultancy at Getronics, AccountingPlaza and Marktplaats. - Requirements analysis for hotelkamerveiling.nl and HBK.

From 2001-2003 Interim and project manager- Interim manager of Education and Training (ca. 70 FTE), during integration of the SNT and KPN call centers. - Interim manager of projectleaders and content developers for call center training programs (13 FTE). Projects included: piloting e-learning; introduction “beroepsbegeleidend leren” (1500 agents), lean program for basic agent training.- Project leader for setting up and in housing contact centers at SNT for several big Dutch companies- Structuring marketing products- Member of bid team for several large bidsFrom 1999-2001 Software Development team manager Team was responsible for development of software for customer contact centers for business units SNT Nederland and SDC, having five contact centers in the Netherlands.- Changed the process to ensure good coordination with business project leads, resulting in improved project results and high team satisfaction- Designed and implemented big structural and cultural change, integrating three autonomous teams into one team of around 30 designers and developers. Enabling 40% reduction of staff (mainly external hire) by diminishing rework, smarter planning and close collaboration between design and development. - (Pre-sales) consultant and IT strategist in big and innovative projects focusing on services like CRM, knowledge management, multi channel, self service. Customers included Gorilla Park, New Monday, Postbank, KPN, UPC en Telfort. - Selection of new CRM system.- Implementation of e-mail routing and automatic answering system.

Emendo Software (it used to be called Techforce) developed one of THE Y2K products, that was used in “factories” all over the world operated by partners Compuware, Siemens, and Cap Gemini. The company experienced incredible growth and had many scale up issues. While in a fast pace adding new features, the company had to set up a professional service and development organization. At the same time the company tried to be ready for the market after Y2K, alas. My formal roles don't even touch upon what I learned during this rodeo:- Project and product manager for the re-engineering and euro workbench- Release manager- Pre-sales consultantMost of all I learned that the organization and competence needed to bring an overly complex system under control goed at the expense of customer relations and innovation.

Design and development of case system for CSI Amsterdam ("Bureau Techniek"), with as main purpose to track the "chain of custody" and the "chain of evidence" of all items that were taken for further examination. The system had 90 tables. Four core developers. Developed in 4 GL (Progress 7) according to SDM extended with rapid prototyping. The project failed in many ways. Sherlock was renamed to Shitlock, and many detectives suffered from a poorly designed system that was delivered late, and did in all likelihood nothing to prevent items going missing. It made me change my perspective on software engineering and question applicability of prototyping as validation technique.My roles:- Informatie analysis and system design- Lead developer
