My career started as a research scientist with focus on innovative technologies like LCD displays in the 1980’s.Later my focus shifted towards leading others to achieve great results. In the late 1990’s I was elected chair of a Works Council of Philips Research and after that I became Department head of the Photonic Materials & Devices department in Philips Research. Here I discovered that I get most energy from creating conditions where people can grow and I further developed this in a Servant Leadership training. During my career at Philips I was often involved in supervising PhD students of various universities. Over time I have contributed to the creation of patents in diverse areas and I have built expertise in understanding the conditions for application of fundamental results in an industrial environment. A good example is the extensive cooperation between my Philips Research Department and the FOM institute Amolf, where product options were generated based on fundamental FOM work and an Amolf group was embedded in my Department.It is my ambition to use this expertise to support young researchers or start-up companies in their efforts towards valorization of their work. I am open to discuss different options for involvement while I am not aiming for a standard full time contract.Expertise: • Open eye for patentability. • Coaching. • Connecting fundamental research with industry. • Translating academic results into industrial product options.
