The Asia 21 Next Generation Fellows program is a year-long fellowship designed to nurture the next generation leaders of Asia.

• Part of the senior management in Asia Symbol (Guangdong), drive the advancement and implementation of corporate sustainability commitments, policies, and programmes, including the Asia Symbol 2030 agenda.• Lead ESG research and insights in the context of Asian markets. • Lead stakeholder engagement.

• Under the supervision of Jeffrey Sachs and Aniket Shah, assessed macro framework, debt sustainability, and fiscal policies of low-income countries;• Analyzed growth modeling of low-income countries and gauged pathways to international borrowing at low-interest rates to support investment;• Provided policy recommendations for the financial challenges of investment towards SDGs in low-income countries.• Co-authored chapter 1, ‘Debt Sustainability’ of ‘Financing the Sustainable Development’ report, which is used by the current Indonesia-presided G20 Sustainable Financing track and the UN SG’s Office.

• Managed the flagship UNEP awards ‘Champions of the Earth’ , the highest UN environmental award. Brought reform to the 2019 awards scheme by setting up a first-ever independent global jury for the selection process.• Managed UNEP’s flagship advocacy project ‘World Environment Day’ in 2019 with a focus on ‘air pollution’, controlled a budget of USD 1 million and acted as the chair of the working group which comprised of over 50 air quality and communication professionals across the UN.• Raised USD 1 million for the ‘World Environment Day’ project in 2020 from Germany, Colombia and designed the project cycle with a theme on ‘biodiversity’.• Directed the negotiation with China in securing the UNEP 2020 ‘Champions of the Earth’ high-level segment at the UN Biodiversity Talks (COP15) in 2020.• Supervised and mentored a team of young international professionals in the advocacy section.

• Promoted the transboundary environmental projects in the Middle East with the Chief of Staff. Facilitated the establishment of a country presence of UNEP in Iraq to assist the country in addressing post-conflict environmental disasters. Acted as a key member in the negotiation with both the State of Palestine and Israel on agreeing to the ‘State of Environment’ report for Palestine. • Orchestrated in re-designing UNEP’s position towards inter-Korean environmental cooperation. Engaged intensively with both South Korea and North Korea governments and developed a project on ‘Environmental Diplomacy in the Korean Peninsula’ which was submitted to the UN Sanctions Committee.• Negotiated with China in enhancing voluntary funding contribution including the second phase of the China Trust Fund (2018-2020) at the value of USD 6 million, the South-South Cooperation fund from the Ministry of Commerce at USD 2 million and operated as a catalyst in procuring the first-ever Junior Professional Officer scheme from China to UNEP. Eleven trained officers from the Ministry of Environment now contribute to UNEP’s core programme. • Spearheaded in securing private sector funding from emerging Asian markets to UNEP’s programme on sand and dust storms at the total value of USD 1 million from various enterprises.• Guided a political brief team of five international professionals during the 4th UN Environment Assembly, acquiring high-quality analysis on key negotiation progresses to the Acting Executive Director and Senior Management of UNEP.

• Performed as the spokesperson in regularly briefing journalists on UNEP’s frontier findings including on green finance, green economy, and sustainable consumption and production. • Advised the Executive Director and China Office on political communication in China on wildlife policy issues. Support led to the international community’s efforts to the successful ‘commercial ivory ban’ in mainland China that came into effect in December 2017 followed by the landmark announcement by the US and China in September 2016. • Supervised 20 partner accounts including ten celebrities in the mandarin market leading to USD 38 million pro-bono resources to UNEP during 2013-2016, elevating UNEP’s branding in the mandarin market.

• Monetized over 5,000 pounds in support of the World Food Programme School Meal Project in Haiti. • Liaised with the World Food Programme Beijing Office in sharing best practices of student fundraising activities.

• Gathered and analyzed information for the Political Affairs Branch in the External Relations Division. • Organized workshops and conducted field trips to the awareness-raising projects in the summer.
