In 2018, Lam published his first book, From Bad to Worse to Best in Class: A Refugee's Success Story. It tells Lam’s own story of his amazing escapes from Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon, including time in an overcrowded prison, dodging bullets, escaping pirates while on a cramped fishing boat, life in a refugee camp, starting over in rural coastal Canada, then finding success as a devoted educator and successful entrepreneur in the United States. It is an inspiring tale of audacity and perseverance, hardship, romance, and personal growth.
