I am a professional futurist who assists organizations in thinking about the future. I help my clients to anticipate the innovations and trends that will shape the future and to choose new goals and strategies. My work has spanned many different topics and industries around the world, over more than 30 years. My aim is both to make the future visible and to provide a source of hope. In 1991, I began working in the futures field when I joined Global Business Network (GBN), then a newly-formed scenario consultancy in northern California. I consulted to corporations and government agencies for GBN across many different industries and areas of public policy in the US. In the mid-1990s I moved to Australia for GBN, before establishing my own futures consulting practice and returning to the UK in 2001 to work in the field of futures thinking through my own consulting firm. Before joining GBN, I was a consultant at the contract research and consulting company Arthur D Little in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While there, I did pioneering work helping to establish the field of industrial ecology – and many of my subsequent projects have involved environmental technology and sustainability. I have consulted to many different organizations and institutions in the United States, Australia, Southeast Asia, Europe and the UK. My work has spanned topics such as hybrid car futures, strategy for software outsourcing, the future of biotechnology, and the evolution of cyberpower. I research, write and deliver presentations on future-related topics. I have taught futures thinking at the Cambridge Judge Business School, the Saïd Business School, the Møller Institute, the University of Bath School of Management, and Ashridge Business School. – www.hardintibbs.com
