Undergraduate Research Assistant

London, England, United Kingdom

As part of a British Council-SPARC project along with educational institutions abroad and the company Windguard, collaborated with Master students and Professor Eldad Avital to develop and conduct experiments in the low-speed wind tunnel using 3D printed NACA 8318 airfoil with a slotted gurney flap wing to investigate performance improvements from this simple design adjustment. After gathering thousands of rows of relevant laboratory data, utilized excel to perform computational analysis on large data sets for qualitative conclusions.Parallel to the experimental side, developed a solid foundation in Ansys Fluent to perform accurate CFD analysis (2D and 3D) which was used to corroborate the experimental results. With a combination of imported polars and XFoil, QBlade was used to simulate turbine performance along with optimised blade profiles to enhance blade performance. Msc Thesis contributed to:• AERODYNAMIC OPTIMIZATION OF RAM AIR TURBINE ROTOR OF A COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT• Aerodynamics analysis of effect of Gurney flap on small horizontal axis wind turbine blades by wind tunnel testingPaper accepted to UK Wing Engineering Conference 2024:• Small wind ram air turbine blade geometric modification for performancePaper accepted to AIAA 2024 Region VII Student Paper Conference:• Small horizontal axis wind turbine aerodynamic-structural design for improved performance using Gurney flaps
