Continued as Executive Director of the not-for-profit ICT KTN Company Ltd on cessation of its grant funding contract, undertaking the financial and reporting actions necessary for a solvent liquidation. Organised a final meeting of its Board and a General Meeting of its Members to vote on the resolutions necessary for a voluntary winding-up, and to enable the Company's financial reserves to be passed to techUK so that elements of the KTN's work could be continued as part of a Future Technologies Network.

Brought together the previous Digital Communications and Digital Systems KTNs to form the ICT KTN, with responsibility for identifying and directing activities aimed at bringing a competitive advantage to the UK by facilitating the development and take up of information and communications technologies and their adoption as key enablers in other industries.

Set up a not-for-profit Company founded by an industry-led group of key players with grant funding from the the Technology Strategy Board (now Innovate UK) and operating as part of its portfolio of KTNs. Responsible for identifying, developing and directing activities aimed at bringing a competitive advantage to the UK by promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing between the users and providers of Digital Communications, and helping to drive innovation in the sector.

Providing advice and guidance in respect of Technology, Regulatory, Research & Development (R&D) and business matters relating to electronic communications.

Raised the technical profile and advancing the business interests of Nortel in the region, providing a link between the company and industry forums, public research and educational institutions, and governments. Spokesperson for Nortel's vision of future Networks and the key technologies that enabled them.Responsible for coordinating European Regulatory positioning and providing assessments of the capabilities and technologies of external companies.

Managed and led Advanced Technology programmes at Nortel's Harlow Laboratories addressing Carrier Network Evolution, Broadband Satellite Networking, Broadband Wireline Access, and Internet Protocol (IP) Networks and Services.Managed and led development work in Harlow in support of the Voice over Packet product line that had resulted from the ground-breaking concepts and technologies pioneered by the Next Generation Architecture Programme Unit of which I had previously been Director.

Created a new Programme Unit at Nortel's Harlow Laboratories to establish a vision of the future globally-applicable public telecommunications architecture and instigate enabling product developments.Brought together a diverse team of technical staff and investigated a range of new network concepts, in particular developing and proving the ideas that are now universally accepted under the banner of Next Generation Networks. This work led to Nortel’s Voice over Packet product portfolio and the setting-up of a Joint Venture with United Utilities to exploit Power Line Telecommunications.Pioneered a real-time distributed software platform based on the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA).Developed an Operations and Maintenance (OAM) capability to support Next Generation Networks.Provided support to Nortel business units in respect of European standards and regulatory issues.

Managed and led R&D in the areas of Digital Signal Processing, Sensor Signal Processing, Antenna Technology, Adaptive Antenna algorithms and implementations, Radar Systems and Radio Communication Networks.This appointment followed the acquisition of STC by Northern Telecom (Nortel) and the incorporation of STL (STC Technology Ltd, formerly Standard Telecommunications Laboratories) as part of BNR, the company’s R&D organisation.

Progressively Research Engineer, Senior Research Engineer, Principal Research Engineer, Senior Principal Research Engineer, Chief Research Fellow, Manager Technical Strategy and finally (1990) Assistant Director.Undertook and led R&D addressing the theory and design of Global Positioning System (GPS) user equipment, Adaptive Antenna algorithms and implementations, Radar systems and Radio Communication systems.

Undertook research into the structure and evolution of extragalactic radio sources.
