Citizens is a rural telco providing broadband Internet and cable television to Southwest, Virginia. I was brought on to write, edit, and produce content for CCTV, Citizens’ deadline-driven 24-hour cable channel. I’ve grown the channel into a source of engaging and entertaining local stories sharing the best of who we are as a community. My promotion to Content Strategist expanded the scope of my work to focus on company-wide strategy. Crafting engaging human-centered stories to connect with the customer at every point along the user journey drives my strategy. I continue as a hands-on content editor who develops and edits content for CCTV, Citizens’ Marketing Department, and Citizens’ Human Resources. I mentor video editors and stakeholders in writing content tailored to the target audience.

My blog, tinyhousefamily.com, got the attention of Anderson Cooper’s producers resulting in an appearance on his daytime talk show and launched a media ride culminating in a Nikon Commercial featuring my story. I took this opportunity to develop my platform and craft content to help others create a life they love.-Appeared on Anderson, The Today Show, and The Nikon I am Generation Image Campaign.-Featured speaker at The 2014 Tiny House Conference, The 2015 Coastal Home and Garden Show, The 2016 Virginia Association for Biological Farming Conference, and The 2017 National Tiny House and Simple Living Jamboree.-Created a community of 25K followers on Facebook sharing the message of simple, mindful living.-Developed and wrote the curriculum, marketed, and sold three eLearning courses about building a simple, mortgage-free lifestyle. I counseled over 300 students through the steps of designing a simple, sustainable lifestyle.

My classroom was a supportive community of practice using an inquiry-based approach to engage students. I taught grammar, reading, writing, and editing while focusing on the core concept of social-emotional learning.-Mentored middle-grade students in writing persuasive, expository, descriptive, and narrative essays as well as creative writing in preparation for state exams.-Faculty member of the Committee for Curriculum Development, Endorsed as Florida Digital Educator, and Teacher of English as a Second Language.-Organized TEDxFloyd as a classroom project, mentoring students in community outreach and event planning.

Conceived concept and opened start-up restaurant. Created a community of engaged and loyal employees who were dedicated to creating raving fans through impeccable customer experience. We made guests want to come back and received critical acclaim from Food Critic, Scott Joseph, in the Orlando Sentinel. I built a cohesive staff by clearly spelling out the steps of service and providing consistent quality training. But most importantly, my staff knew I wouldn’t ask them to do anything I wouldn’t do.-Public relations and email marketing efforts resulted in numerous articles in print and online, as well as awards: “Best New American in the Orlando Area”, 2008 WESH 2 A-List. Honorable Mention, Best American, 2007 Foodie Awards.-My project management skills shined when I took over an old fast-food restaurant in desperate need of repair. After extensive renovation, the result was a vibrant modern restaurant given the Community Image Award, St. Cloud, Florida Chamber of Commerce, 2007.
