"Optimizing MRI biopsy needle performance using finite element analysis"Basic requirements for MRI biopsy needles should be that they are non-magnetic and show only few artifacts. For developing biopsy needles, it's important to consider the trade-off between proper mechanical characteristics and materials used to reduce artifacts during MR imaging. The proposed needles need to be evaluated regarding their mechanical performance.Aims of the project:The aim of the project is to optimize the funtionality of spinal biopsy needles. Therefore, this project aims to simulate mechanical tests using finite element analysis (FEA). This can be achieved with following steps:1. Literature research: state of the art of the current approaches for evaluation of biopsy needle performance.2. Implementation of FEA using a computational simulation software called ANSYS.3. Modeling the biopsy needle utilizing FEA in ANSYS, such as implementation, evaluation and validation. - Forming up the proposed and standard biopsy needle using FEA. - Building up the mechanical test setups using FEA to test the performance of the proposed and standard biopsy needles. - Applying mechanical tests to different types of needles to verify the influence of different parameters. - Comparing the performance from a mechanical perspective between both types of needles. - Implementating suitable methods for uncertainity analysisSoftwares used: ANSYS, AutoCAD, MATLAB
