My Ph.D. work focused mostly on protein-lipid interactions and membrane-bound proteins. My thesis focused on the biological relevance of a domain-swapped dimer conformation of cytochrome c crystallized by the Bowler lab. I explored the potential of this conformation to be the biological switch for the initiation of intrinsic apoptosis (cell death).During my studies, I was the BioSpectroscopy Core Laboratory Fellow at UM’s Center for Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics for three years. In this role, I gained extensive experience with experimental fluorescence techniques while working with other researchers and projects. I served as the interim manager of the core for a year during a personnel change. As the interim manager, I tracked and educated users, marketed the core, and managed day-to-day core activities.I directly mentored five undergraduates and three first-year graduate students. I cultivate relationships outside of the University, resulting in collaborations and publications.
