After my graduation on "Remote plasma atomic layer deposition of TaNx films" in the Plasma & Materials Processing (PMP) research group at Eindhoven University of Technology, I started in March 2007 as a PhD student in the same group on the topic of "Thin film materials synthesis for all-solid-state 3D-integrated batteries ". The goal of this project is to use the thin film technology, atomic layer deposition (ALD) to synthesize the materials used in a battery stack. This will enable the production of small-sized all-solid-state batteries with a very high energy storage capacity. These high capacities will be reached exploiting the third dimension (3D batteries instead of 2D planar batteries) employing materials and processes widely applied in the IC industry. More information on this research area can be found on the PMP internet site http://www.phys.tue.nl/pmp.
