As part of the executive leadership team, served as Department Spokesperson and managed all aspects of the Department’s media relations and mass communication efforts. * Managed the Department’s overall public image and coordinated publicity campaigns on topics such as voting or opportunities for public testimony. * Served as primary media contact and prepared and distributed news releases, articles, photographs, fact sheets, etc., to media representatives and other interested parties. * Served as primary writer and proofreader for mass communication documents, reports and grants. * Designed brochures, newsletters, webpages, reports and other documents. * Wrote speeches and talking points for Director and other employees of the Department. * Verbally disseminated information by conducting hundreds of trainings, seminars, information meetings and public speaking engagements for external customers.

Investigated complaints of illegal discrimination to determine if there was a violation of the law; assured that appropriate remedial action was initiated when necessary. Conducted outreach and training events to encourage the acceptance of diversity and compliance with the law.

Assisted the Legislative Liaison to the Mayor as a liaison between the Executive Branch (Mayor and city departments) and the City Council. * Coordinated with City Council and city departments to secure Council approval of department contracts or other actions. * Coordinated daily departmental efforts to respond to Council concerns regarding citizen complaints, progress on departmental endeavors, or in response to/preparation for, political or media incidents.
