Harold Jones Work Experience Details
  • Bae Systems
    Cto, Cyber Security Advanced Programs
    Bae Systems 2009 - Present
    London, Gb
Responsible for guiding transition of BAE Systems' intellectual property in cyber analytics into operational solutions that solve customers' needs.Led a multidisciplinary team of network security experts and intelligence analysts in defining and fielding a unified, intelligence-driven framework for rapidly determining the scope and ConOps of a targeted cyber intrusion. Authored the concept for BAE Systems' Real-time Malware Analytics platform, which applies machine-learning principles to detect and classify previously-unseen malicious executables in web or e-mail traffic at line-rate. Presently leading large scale, long duration testing to characterize the performance and training update needs of an operational version of the malware analytics system. Regular participant in industry fora on open source security or malware analytics topics.Previously led development of real-time network forensics tools based on a novel set of behavioral anomaly sensors, which we successfully transitioned to an open source platform in partnership with the Open Information Security Foundation. Also, led development of the Leading Edge NOSC Environment (LENE), a test center for integrating tools for global threat analysis and real-time network analytics into a comprehensive threat intelligence solution, and then validating them on live traffic streaming across BAE Systems' 50K node network.
  • Bae Systems Ait (Formerly Alphatech)
    Vp, Cyber Warfare Initiative
Bae Systems Ait (Formerly Alphatech) 2005 - 2009
In 2008 and 2009, led a corporate initiative to transform the BAE Systems/AIT's computer network operations technology base into discriminating defensive and offensive cyber solutions for the broader corporation. Worked horizontally to establish internal partnerships with integrated solution delivery organizations, leading to half a dozen major IDIQ and completion proposals. Led teaming and capture of a contract relationship with NSA which established a contract vehicle for sustaining our long-standing technology transition work with that organization. Also, developed the requirements and productization strategy for BAE Systems’ investment in the Network Intrusion Detection and Response (NIDAR) product line. From 2005-2007, led a 100 person R&D organization that established itself in the "top 3" of developers of breakthrough defensive and offensive cyber technology solutions to government customers. Funding for the development initiatives was almost exclusively provided by government R&D agencies via the competitive proposal process. Growth rates through this period averaged 20%.
  • Alphatech
    Division Director
    Alphatech Oct 2001 - Dec 2004
    São Paulo, Sp, Br
Assumed responsibility for a small Alphatech DC-area R&D office and increased it 4-fold to $16M in revenues over the 4 year period. Stabilized the original business base in automated planning system technology, while architecting a significant research community presence in advanced computer network operations tools and methodologies. By 2005, core business interests were evenly split between computer network operations and automated tools for increasing the effectiveness of intelligence collection and analysis. Led transition of the Multi-Asset Synchronizer from a DARPA-sponsored prototype to a system of record for managing the collection activities of heterogeneous constellations of ISR assets.
  • Northrop-Grumman (Tasc)
Technical Director, Information Management Strategic Business Unit
    Northrop-Grumman (Tasc) 1999 - 2001
Provided technical oversight, customer coordination and strategic technology planning for core programs in information exploitation, collaborative engineering, geographic information systems, product data management and distributed simulation for a $100M+ organization. Led corporate initiatives to introduce collaborative engineering principles to design of next-generation ship systems, and to automate manufacturing processes for shipbuilding.Served as senior contributor to an Air Force-led initiative to design a Joint Synthetic Battlespace for simulation-based evaluation of candidate C4ISR system designs. Also led major capture efforts such a s for the Distributed Common Ground System Integrated Data Environment.Managed contract research in active networking, secure communications for wireless workgroups and automated interpretation of digital video.
  • Tasc, Inc.
    Division Director, Acting Group Director
    Tasc, Inc. 1973 - 1999
    Chantilly, Va, Us
By 1999, was acting director of a $40M/yr technology-centric operation focused on developing object-oriented simulation frameworks compliant with both emerging commercial and OSD (High Level Architecture) standards. Over the preceding years, had developed and led various technology-centric businesses in areas such as distributed simulation, advanced sensing (synthetic aperture radar and laser radar), automated imagery exploitation and target recognition, intelligent avionics, GPS signal processing and automated fault isolation. The common thread was to start from the ground-up, marrying an emerging technology with a perceived government customer need. In the early years when TASC was a small business, funding was primarily sole source through consultative selling to government customers. In later years, the organization was principally built and sustained through competitive bids to R&D-focused agencies in DoD and the intelligence community.
