I am currently leading a team of frontline workers whose job is to support all hazardous and radioactive waste generators throughout LLNL. Waste management starts with us. We provide container management, the initial waste characterization steps, spill response, lab clean outs, and WAA management. Waste generator engagement is vital to successful waste management and we strive to ensure our services are timely, thorough and cost-effective.

Led a team whose focus was on the characterization of hazardous and radioactive wastes. Through sampling and analysis or generator knowledge we determined the hazardous constituents and concentrations and applied the necessary waste codes. We also determined the radionuclides and associated activities. We chose the final packaging and worked closely with our Certification Program to ensure our waste met all offsite TSDF waste acceptance criteria.

I manage a team whose job entails the proper storage and disposal of all the hazardous, radioactive, mixed, and transuranic wastes produced at LLNL. We have several storage facilities that are RCRA permitted Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs) where we ensure the waste is properly stored, containerized, and managed. Several of the these facilities are also Department of Energy Nuclear Facilities, too. My team also includes the personnel responsible for the safe transportation and final disposition of the waste.

I manage the daily operations of a state-permitted treatment, storage and disposal facility for hazardous and radioactive wastes. I manage the people who operate within the facility and schedule the daily processes. We treat over 30,000 gallons of waste water and over 25,000 pounds of solid waste on an annual basis. Also, as a process engineer I design, assemble and operate small-scale treatment schemes for unique waste streams.

I worked at the Samoa Pulp Mill for a couple of years. My job duties included conducting research to help the mill use non-chlorine based bleaching agents. This was the first pulp mill in North America to become Totally Chlorine Free (TCF). I also was involved in all environmental aspects of the mill from wastewater management to air discharge permitting to hazardous waste management.
