Mission -to optimize successful engagement, treatment and recovery from TBI by providingTBI expertise, resources and support to the military and veterans’ communitieswhile facilitating connections across the entire continuum of recovery andspectrum of care. I provide services for Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserve service members and Veterans injured in OEF/OIF/OND and CONUS who are symptomatic subsequent to a mild, moderate, severe, or penetrating traumatic brain injury (TBI). I conduct intakes 1 month, 3-month, 6-month,9- month, 12-month,18-month, and 24-month follow-ups and beyond for those service members included in the RSP system. Other follow-ups outside these designated intervals are conducted as deemed clinically appropriate by the RSS. I collaborate with medical providers, command ,clinicians, members of the medical and rehabilitative care team, and programs/services providing benefits to Wounded Warriors to coordinate the service members’ care and needed services as it relates to traumatic brain injury. The Office of Acquired Brain Injury serves as the lead department in Texas providing guidance, consultation, referral and service coordination resource for survivors of brain injuries and their families, including returning combat veterans, through referrals and greater coordination of federal, state and local resources. National Brain Injury Model Program The OABI is nationally recognized for its outreach and advocacy, educational and training programs and innovative projects, is considered a national model for the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration’s Federal TBI Program. It partners directly with the Texas Military Forces, the Department of Defense Centers of Excellence in Psychological Health and TBI, the Defense and Veterans’ Brain Injury Centers, including Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., to coordinate services for wounded warriors in their home areas and to provide training for family members and reintegration specialists.
