Cyber Future Foundation (CFF) is an international consortium of leaders engaged in the profession and practice of cyber security. Its mission is to build and promote a global cyber security ecosystem, and to establish guidance and best practices in an increasingly digital world. To achieve this mission, it pursues a broad range of activities including policy research, development of thought leadership material, convening summits on a global level and promoting a concept and framework for cooperation and collaboration in all cyber domains. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt NGO, with a rotating Board of Directors. The Trustees set policy and delegate authority for the foundation’s operations. Groups in various regions of the world formulate strategies and recommend proposals for research and action. CFF serves as the operational body for the following not-for-profit organizations: Cyber Future Summit, Cyber Future Institute, Cyber Future Dialogues (Davos, Switzerland) a global, independent think tank and research center, and Project Gateway (Washington, D.C.).

I am privileged and honored to be a member of the RIM Council at Ponemon Institute. The RIM Council draws its name from the practice of Responsible Information Management, an ethics-based framework and long-term strategy for managing personal and sensitive employee, customer and business information.The RIM Council is a select group of privacy, security and information management leaders from multinational corporations who are champions within their various industries on issues involving privacy and data protection. Diversity in RIM Council membership is important because it ensures varied perspectives on the development of the RIM framework and related programs. Ultimately, RIM will not work unless it is applicable to a wide group of business and government organizations. Hence, the focus of our work is always cross-industry. The North Texas Cyber Forensics Lab is a brand new laboratory being built by the University of North Texas at the new Frisco campus. Dr. Scott Belshaw, Dep't of Criminal Justice, College of Public Affairs and Community Service, is directing this program, and has asked me to chair his board of directors.This will be a teaching lab which will initially be specializing in mobile cyber forensics. As board chairman, it is my responsibility to assist in assembling a first-rate board of directors for this organization, and provide the leadership necessary to guide the North Texas Cyber Forensics Lab to become the premier academic-based cyber forensics laboratory in the nation.

Collin College has been approved to develop and offer a four-year Bachelors degree in Applied Technology - Cyber Security. The first class will matriculate in the Fall of 2020, and the Advisory Board was tasked with assisting with providing input into program direction and curriculum development. The BAT degree in Cyber Security will prepare students for a career in cyber security management and support, network management, system administration, technical support, hardware/software installation, and equipment troubleshooting and repair.

The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing, and provides education on the uses of Cloud Computing to help secure all other forms of computing. The Cloud Security Alliance is led by a broad coalition of industry practitioners, corporations, associations and other key stakeholders. The North Texas Chapter of the CSA focuses on developing Subject Matter Expertise in the areas of Cloud Security, Governance, Risk, and Compliance.

Deputize America was conceived in December 2012 after the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. 20 children died that day. Shortly after the tragedy, President Obama gave a short speech from the Oval Office. Behind his desk were children that attended Sandy Hook Elementary School. His message… “We, in this country, must do something to make our children safer.” Michael Carrigan, the founder of Deputize America, thought to himself, “What can the government do? Pass a new law that says … it’s really, really bad to shoot children?” Laws do not make people safer when it comes to terrorists, criminals, or violent, mentally-ill people. He thought, “What would I do? I’d Deputize millions of Americans who will commit to protecting themselves and others. The truth is, the first responders in deadly force situations, all too often, become the victims themselves.So here we are 6 years later. Are we safer? No. In fact, security for our families is the number one concern across the country. We thank the government and law enforcement officers for all they do. I’m certain we will never know the extent of their dedication or give them enough appreciation. Deputize America is about the American people. It is about taking back our responsibility for the outcomes of our own lives and families. “Americans looking out for other Americans!” That’s what Deputize America is all about!

The SMU Cyber Security Advisory Council comprises a dynamic group of business and technology executives who provide objective, outside-in thinking and continual focus on core academic, business and industry issues. Representing companies and organizations with a presence in the DFW area, the members of the Council contribute first-hand knowledge and diverse executive perspectives regarding the academic curriculum needs of SMU and future human resource requirements of the business and government communities served by the institution. This knowledge enables continual refinement of SMU’s mission and performance metrics. The Council’s insights help to provide a clear, market-based context for the operational realities of cyber security-driven business needs and the future mission of higher education to fulfill these requirements. The Council provides SMU’s faculty and administrators with a valuable intellectual resource to: (1) test innovative education solutions, (2) foster community partnership support, (3) develop broader thought leader relationships beyond the university, and (4) evaluate strategic decisions designed to enhance SMU’s leadership position.

In 1950, the North Dallas Crime Commission was created to provide support for law enforcement in the downtown Dallas area. Now, over 65 years later, the NTCC has evolved from a Dallas-based program to one that includes cities and towns throughout North Texas.The North Texas Crime Commission is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating safer, healthier and more vital communities by supporting the efforts of law enforcement with state-of-the-art training, effective public safety legislation, and positive public relations.I currently Chair the Cyber Crime Committee, and the Health Care Cyber Security sub-Committee, am Vice-Chair of the Legislative Committee, and serve on the Nominating and Finance Committees.

As the technology began to approach functional obsolescence, we folded the company, and partnering with two of our lead customers, built an entirely new product out of the legacy IP.

MotherShip Productions produced showcases and events throughout the state of Texas, the south and northeast U.S. Another component of C&F / MSP, was music publishing and record producing. We have worked with some of the most recognized names in pop, rock and country music. Among clients and associates are several Grammy ® Award winners, platinum album producers, and international touring acts.

Start-up healthcare consulting firm that grew from 7 to 70 employees by 1995. We handled the full spectrum of reimbursement strategies for uncompensated care. Our clients were non-profit (charitable), for profit, and public (county-owned) hospitals. Continued as a consultant with the company for two additional years after leaving full-time employment in late 1995. Responsible for several thousand cases with state jurisdiction and over 95 cases involving federal jurisdiction, prevailing in every single case (three were won at the appeals level).

Privately held company with interests in commercial real estate, oil & gas, banking, and a diversified stock portfolio. UPR principals owned greater than 50% controlling interest in two AMEX (now NASDAQ) listed companies, one of which was the world’s sixth-largest pharmaceutical distribution company, with annual sales of over $300,000,000 (1988). After consolidating ownership, and increasing operational efficiencies, we sold the company in 1989 to the world’s 2nd largest pharmaceutical company.
