Data & Analytics Team. In this position I manage and lead a small team composed of data scientists and a machine learning engineer. I primarily coach the team on the best ML/MLOps and software engineering practices. We use both auto ML – DataIku – and Microsoft Azure resources to implement and deploy-to-production time-series forecasting models and generative AI models. I work with other team leaders to ensure we are aligned on model delivery as we are dependent on our data engineering and reporting teams. I work with product managers to collaborate on user stories and to be aligned to business goals. Further, I provide strategies for technical architecture and work with our IT and security teams to make sure our models are in compliance. In addition, I am heavily involved in the ABS ASPIRE and internship programs (e.g., interviewing, mentoring, managing, etc.). Finally, I play a very instrumental role in helping ABS achieve its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives as I chair an employee resource group – BOLD (Black Organization for Leadership and Development).

Digital Solutions Team. In this role, I manage and lead a small data science team. Primary responsibilities include: 1) direction on best practices for Agile and DevOps 2) instruction on cloud solutions 3) guidance on machine learning techniques, versioning, packaging, and deployment 3) direction on interfacing ML to various platforms including OSI PI, databases, and web services. 4) alignment with product team for ML solution delivery and value 5) coaching direct reports.

Digital Solutions Team. As a member of a smaller data science team my contributions include: 1) guidance on best practices for Agile and DevOps 2) instruction on cloud solutions, machine learning versioning, packaging, and deployment 3) direction on interfacing ML to various platforms including OSI PI, RDBMS’s, and web services. ML duties include building supervised, multi-classification, and regression ML models for predictive maintenance on vessels. Data supervision includes creating train-test-validation from large data sets for ML models, building reusable python class libraries for data preprocessing, feature engineering, and NLP on time-series, structured, and unstructured data. I engage stakeholders to convey a clear understanding of the ML use-case problem/solution and the value.

Worked for the following clients:BNSF Railway: Joined small group within the Operations Research team. Led effort to deliver a forecasting tool implementing XGBoost, ARIMA, and regression (i.e. autoregression) algorithms on time-series data. Other responsibilities included: establish the machine learning development environment in Azure, introduce and execute Agile methods (served as scrum master for the team), pre-process data, generate visualizations, and guide and mentor team on data science and Agile best practices.Fidelity Investments: Responsibilities included: contribute insights from data analysis, write complex queries and procedures in MySQL to comply with use-case requirements, pre-process and clean data, implement WOE/IV using R, perform feature engineering, implement linear and ensemble models using Python, and generate visualizations using Matplotlib.HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation). Responsibilities included: define the work breakdown structure and project deliverables, produce exploratory data analysis, perform feature engineering, generate data visualizations, implement linear and ensemble machine learning algorithms using libraries from Scikit-learn, code using Jupyter notebooks, and produce final report.

Algorithm Development R & D (Data Scientist). Instituted the adoption of Python and Jupyter as development tools for the team (a new team within the company). Implemented classification algorithms initially using linear, ensemble models, and deep learning models to classify ECG signals. Also, delivered POC on Big Data research in the areas of Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Storm, and Spark. Last, conducted project meetings professionally, executed projects plans successfully, and mentored team members encouragingly. Clinical Solutions (Lead Software Developer). Provided remote heart monitoring system (CEM and MCT) solutions for in-house lab technicians and external medical clients. Further, led my team in providing application development and support for enterprise systems. Led large-scale database migration effort. Proposed and implemented the solution to create the Dev environment. Other duties included: implementing repeatable solutions, deploying software, conducting team meetings, and mentoring junior developers.

Global Regulatory Compliance IT. Worked on this team to certify all HP systems were compliant with local and international regulatory agencies. Responsibilities included: 1) work closely with business leaders and the technical community to develop, test, and release compliance, IT solutions in the areas of Quote-To-Cash and Global Trade 2) Perform software construction, systems integration test, system documentation, system deployment, and SharePoint site maintenance duties. Also, led effort to utilize HP cloud for team projects. Hosted sessions (i.e. lunch talks) on Big Data 101. Completed trainings: SAP Hana, Vertica, Lean Six Sigma White and Yellow Belts, Test Driven Development. Received company recognition for contributions to the HP Exstream Project.

Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. Led the effort to redesign and implement the Willed-Body System, a system that managed cadavers donated to BCM for research. BCM Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Trained fellows in the NIGMS post-doctoral IRACDA program on best practices for infusing technology into education. Built, maintained websites for the IRACDA program and the 2011 Annual IRACDA Conference.
