In my position, I had the opportunity to help build connections between the Interfraternity Council, Greek life, and the rest of the High Point community. I achieved this by working with the council and student groups on campus, as well as managing social media and coordinating with outside media to keep them informed about the achievements of our chapters. This role allowed me to oversee all philanthropic efforts by our fraternities while maintaining detailed records of each fraternity’s accomplishments toward their community service goals. Another aspect of my role was serving as secretary during our council meetings. Between recording community service efforts and meeting minutes, this role required strong organizational strategies.

In my time as the Vermont State President I was able to learn and grow as leader as well as experience working in professional settings. Due to the fact that FBLA is a student run organization my state officer team would meet frequently. In these meetings we would plan conferences, donation drives, membership growth strategies and work to fulfill our other state officer duties such as our newsletter and chapter visits. My role as state president had many job requirements. I would plan and run each meeting, speak to current and potential chapter advisors as well as connect with each potential speaker or workshop leader prior to their interview with our officer team and prior to the day we would be working with them. These aspects of my role as state president helped develop essential life skills. I learned how to organize and run group meetings, how to delegate tasks to others, how to cold call potential speakers and most importantly I further developed my ability to work with a group to set goals and complete tasks. Two final yet memorable lessons that FBLA has helped me experience took place at conferences. I was able to join members from my state officer team in Chicago for the Spring Leadership Conference, at this conference I learned the power of networking as I introduced myself to delegates from all over the world. I spoke with FBLA members from all over the US and even a few from China and Puerto Rico, While speaking we would share our FBLA stories and advice; All equally beneficial. The final experiences took place within Vermont at the conferences I would speak at. Not many high schoolers get the opportunity to speak in-front of crowds ranging from 50 people to 300 and I was able to do it frequently and truly develop as a speaker.

After being elected President Elect for my high schools FBLA chapter I was given the ability to run for a state position. After many discussions with my chapter advisor I decided to run for VP, This decision changed the trajectory of my life. As I served as VP, I learned a wide variety of skills while learning more about myself. One of the things I learned was not only do I enjoy public speaking but I have a natural ability to engage a crowd. Throughout the year I worked to fine tune this ability and found myself giving speeches to groups ranging from 50 teachers to 250 people at our state leadership conferences. This platform as well as having an amazing president to shadow gave me the confidence to run for state president the following year.

As a first job working at Agave taught me a ton. I was a host who would find myself doing the server's jobs, Dishwashing, and sometimes helping cook. This job taught me how to work with customers, how to stand up to managers when treated unfairly, and how to ask the right questions in future job interviews to determine if the job is a good fit.
