I’d be far from being called an academic across my school years, but I was always interested in human behaviour and so studying business & psychology gave me the opportunity to put a little science and theory behind the day to day interactions that had triggered my interest.After University, as many of us do, I took a year out. I wanted to travel and work in various environments to see what suited me best. Did I want to work for a big or small company? Did I want to work in the public or private sector? Experiencing them first hand was the only way to know.One of my earliest experiences took me to Siemens, where I watched a small HR team engage on such a breadth of topics and where 9-5 was not a concept we affiliated with. After a stint supporting recruitment at Accenture, I moved to Avon Cosmetics, to what was at the time, my dream job. I “grew up” around some great leaders at Avon, working in areas of the business that encouraged me to be creative and bold. I reflect on my Avon days in the most positive of ways, but ultimately, my time had come to move on.So after nearly 10 years, I joined a small, international, specialist negotiation company where I focussed on global people processes and worked with the most passionate group of individuals I could imagine existing in a 250-person business. Working with C-Suite Leaders on designing talent processes, thinking differently about driving and measuring engagement, understanding opportunities to improve HR efficiency across our 13 markets, opening new markets and gaining more change and OD experience day after day.I set up a business as a Fractional CPO and work as a Coach to my HR community and peers in leadership roles. This is where I returned to my roots and got be CPO/HRD for Medik8 and most recently Sephora and their return to the UK market (finally!!) #goals. Some may disagree on the role luck has to play in life, but I consider myself incredibly lucky when I reflect on my career to date…I’ve travelled extensively, have lived in the UK, Madrid and New York, and so often find myself thinking of the 13yr old version of myself who would have laughed at the idea this would be life. I’ve met some of my closest friends through work and strive to help others see the importance of loving what you do, who you do it with and of course having a few laughs along the way.
