The Groote Museum is originally a mid 19th century natural history museum adjacent to the Amsterdam Royal Zoo at the Artisplein. The museum closed its doors for public in 1947. Although the ground floor continued to have a social function for meetings and parties, the upper floor remained virtually untouched for the years to follow. The majority of the original showcases is still present and building is now being restored.Role: overall manager of project for the design and preparation phases, comprising spatial & exhibit design, storylines, collection research and realization of a museum, external relations and other functions in restored building. The team includes design agencies Kossmanndejong (Amsterdam) and ART+COM (Berlin), Thijs Biersteker of Woven Studio’s, StudioSlot, content managers and a wide range of content specialists and scientists.

Micropia Amsterdam opened its doors in September 2014. ARTIS has the ambition to show Micropia in other parts of the world and as such is looking for partners to implement the unique concept, designs and content that received many international awards over the past years.Role: Responsible for exploring, business case, foreign markets, approaching and receiving prospects, creating business proposals, negotiations, in short, all that is necessary to close a deal.

The ARTIS Aquarium is a late 19th century monumental building at the premises of the Royal Amsterdam Zoo. The aquarium has one of the last surviving Lloyd's filtration systems in working order. The most recent major renovation and extentions to the aquarium were done in the mid-90s of last century. The aquarium (listed building and exhibition) is due for restoration and ARTIS explores the possibilities.Role: managing the design and preparation phases of the restoration process as well as developing a vision and associated storylines and collectionplan. Working with the main architect OTH_architects, Verlaan & Bouwstra restoration architects, and various advisors and experts on construction, building phyisics, installations, sustainability, safety and aquarium technology, including Life Support Systems. A complex project due to the special nature of the building - which can be seen as a machine - and the many functions that come together in this space.

Development of listed building Hoofdgebouw / Groote Museum. Covering early concept phase until final design. The plans are currently realised and following the restoration, a new museum will be housed on the upper floors (see top).Role: managing the planning phases of the restoration of the Hoofdgebouw. Working with the main architect MerkX (formerly MerkX + Girod), and various advisors and experts on construction, building phyisics, installations, sustainability and safety. Including responsibility for the budget.

MICROPIA is a museum showing the world of microbes, including viruses, bacteria, algae and fungi and that is housed in the restored late 19th century monument known as Ledenlokalen.Role: overall manager of project, comprising design and implementation and build of exhibition, education and external relations. Team includes KossmanndeJong (Exhibition Designer), ART+COM (new media), many scientists and the majority of universities and institutes in the Netherlands that deal with microbes. Consultations with Main building architects (Sprenger von der Lippe) and Rappange & Partners (Monument advisor).

Bird House restoration at Natura Artis Magistra, Amsterdam, opened July 2011Restoration and transformation of a 1910 monument holding a variety of birds in a newly designed exhibit covering 3 habitats. A balance was found with visitor experience, current view on animal husbandry and welfare and restoring the early 20th century building. Responsibilities comprised managing the full design process of building and exhibit on time, budget and quality, as well as monitoring the realization phase. Team included Rappange & Partners (Monument architect), Landab (Landscape architect) and Houthoff Zoo Design (Rockwork) as well as keepers, vets and educational staff.

Managing a unit (UK and NL) that successfully supported publishing directors in their business development by exploring novel electronic products and services which turn content into information. Setting up new department from scratch and implementing a new concept whereby the unit was the interface between publishing and operational disciplines for new developments, such as IT, production, fulfillment, etc.
