A retirement village can be a very variable place to work. It requires an adaptability and a ‘can do’ attitude. While my main responsibilities at The Village Coorparoo were accounts based, the role encompassed so much more than that. All employees were required to be able to step in and help out wherever necessary and I thrived on the variety involved.I processed all accounts payable and receivable using MYOB Exo Business, prepared and distributed resident monthly invoices and other receivable accounts. I assisted with the preparation of the annual budget and audit process. I generated GL reports and created operational reports for analysis as required. I also ensured timely reconciliation and processing of credit facilities and petty cash.From September 2017, for two months I assumed the extra responsibility of running the accounts at The Village Redcliffe; I then trained the incoming Assistant Village Manager in these duties.I assisted with the preventative maintenance program, acting as liaison between contractors and residents. I also frequently arranged contractors to attend for repairs and maintenance, from issuing the purchase order to overseeing the completion of the job.Wherever and whenever required, I provided assistance to the village residents and Village Manager, from aiding a resident who has fallen to providing solutions for the technical challenges at village events. I acted as greeter and conducted tours during a village open day, and often carried out inductions of new residents. At times, I undertook general reception and administration duties including answering calls, emails, filing, photocopying, mail, archiving and data entry. I thrived on the variety involved in the role and enjoyed being able to make a positive difference every day.

Yacht Description: Launched by Dutch shipyard ‘Acico Yachts’ in 2012, M/Y Nassima is a 50m charter yacht sleeping 12 guests which winters in Italy and spends the summers cruising the Mediterranean. Charters are typically 1-2 weeks in length and previous guests include a former head of state, celebrities, sports stars and business leaders.Job Description: The Chief Stewardess is ultimately responsible for the interior of the vessel and for providing superior hospitality service to meet the guests’ expectations. She will also train and manage any lower-ranking stewards. Excellent service, hostess, and managerial skills are a necessity, as is having a good degree of creative flair. I was appointed as part of initial crew of ten for the newly launched yacht’s first charter season. Following a successful season, I was promoted to Chief Steward in September 2013, also undertaking purser responsibilities including bookkeeping and purchasing. I trained and managed a team of three junior stewardesses. While on board Nassima, I completed three successful summer seasons of often back-to-back charters, while striving to continually develop and improve our operational systems. During two winter seasons I was part of a skeleton crew of three. During this time I oversaw several interior repairs and improvements and ensured the protection of the yacht interior throughout the projects.

Yacht Description: Built by Italian shipyard ‘CRN’ in 1994, M/Y Aqualibrium was a charter yacht sleeping 10 guests based in S France and cruising the Med during summer. Job Description: A Stewardess is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the interior of the vessel and providing superior hospitable service.I joined last minute for the summer charter season, one day before the first charter, as part of an interior team of three. Within a few days I had thoroughly familiarised myself with the yacht and its program and been appointed as the lead service stewardess. I lead the service for several busy charters, including dinner parties for up to 16 guests and cocktail parties for up to 30 guests. The team shared responsibility for housekeeping, laundry and service. We prepared and presented the yacht for sale at the Cannes and Monaco Boat Shows.

Yacht Description: Built by Turkish yacht builders ‘Proteksan Turquoise’ in 1994 and sleeping 12 guests, this private yacht was under new ownership. Based in Monaco, the yacht underwent a large refit in 2012 in La Ciotat, South of France.Job Description: In addition to regular steward duties, a Crew Cook is responsible for preparing lunch and dinner daily for crew and contractors. For the majority of my time on board, I was the sole stewardess; for four months I was also the crew cook. The yacht was undergoing a refit at this time and we catered for the extra contractors. Therefore I was responsible for cooking for up to 16 people, managing a weekly budget and provisioning for the Galley and Interior Departments. I was also responsible for the upkeep of boat interior and its protection during the yard period. In addition, I organised alternative crew accommodation while the yacht was uninhabitable.
