The samples were taken from depths of 600-1000 m and contained an incredible diversity of life. Habitat complexity is known to be a major driver of diversity within the deep sea. Therefore, I used statistical software, such as R studio and PRIMER V7, to calculate functional diversity and to conduct biological trait analysis over a habitat complexity gradient, across two cross-mound transects of the Haas Mound. Habitat complexity was measured by measuring the volume of coral framework collected from each site. I was honoured to present my findings at the 16th Deep-Sea Biology Symposium in Brest, France, in September 2021.The skills I have learnt throughout my studies include benthic taxonomy, marine fisheries management and population biology, habitat ecology and coastal surveying, environmental impact assessment, socio-economic questionnaire design and integrated coastal-zone management. My current grade average is 77 (distinction). Show less -
