I am a solicitor in the Intermediate Track department with a mixed caseload of different types of complex cases, including a number of head injuries and fractures. I deal with the new Intermediate Track cases, as well as a mixture of Multi Track, Fast Track, MOJ and OIC cases. I also have a number of litigated cases across the Fast and Multi Tracks, including ones stayed for limitation as well as those having been issued for disputes in quantum and liability. This role requires me to be highly organised and observant, and efficient in time management, to meet the demands of the business, whilst keeping a keen eye on the details of each individual case in a complex caseload. I am able to review medical evidence from many different types of experts and assess general and special damages, as well as providing advice and options for my clients. I have experience in drafting court proceedings and Particulars of Claim, applications, and other court documents such as Directions Questionnaires and Lists of Documents.

My caseload consisted of cases that have passed limitation and so were subject to a stay of proceedings. I was a Fee Earner working within the MOJ Portal with Portal cases, as well as dealing with untraced claims through the MIB and foreign claims via UK Handling Agents using Proclaim. My main role involved dealing with files approaching 3 years post-accident and beyond, dealing with issuing the claims protectively for limitation, Court dates and Court orders, and bringing these claims to completion. I also dealt with more complex injury claims within the portal and through the MIB and UK Handling Agents, as well as those with other added complexities.

I was a fee earner within the MOJ Portal, with a caseload of approximately 370 files, for injury claims valued between £1000 and £25000, taking claims all the way from liability being accepted on the CNF, up to Stage 2 settlements and Stage 3 hearings. I was able to switch between different systems where required, as my MOJ role required the use of a purpose-built system to progress claims through the MOJ Process, whilst I was still required to use Proclaim on occasion.Alongside my role as a fee earner, I was also a member of the Corporate Social Responsibility committee and I was a Customer Experience Ambassador. In my role as a CSR committee member I was involved in organising charitable competitions and collections, developing relationships with local charities and making colleagues aware of upcoming charitable events. As a Customer Experience Ambassador I was involved in trying to enhance the experience that customers receive throughout the life of their claims, including reviewing NPS and CSAT scores.

I ran my own caseload of around 1000 Small Claims, and Minor Injury files below £1000, from start to finish using the Proclaim claims management system. These claims were a mix of straight forward liability admitted cases, as well as those which required negotiations to resolve the issues surrounding liability and losses out of Court and others which needed to be litigated. I also dealt with claims involving the MIB and foreign third parties via UK Handling Agents. Many of my claims also had an element of credit hire involved when they were litigated, so I was able to gain experience in negotiating this aspect and taking them to Court hearings.

I assisted a fee earner in running their caseload whilst learning the processes of running a claim from start to finish, including litigating claims in the Small Claims Track for both injury and non-injury files. I developed skills in drafting letters to clients, the Court and other involved parties, as well as learning more in depth about issues surrounding liability and valuing minor injuries. A part of my role was to answer the phone, process inbound and outbound cheques and BACS payments, and also to ensure that inbound post and email was correctly labelled and added to the files.

I was an advisor within the assessment team at Minster Law, where I was responsible for accurately reviewing claims as to their suitability for proceeding to legal services and submitting the CNF. I was able to build an excellent rapport with people either face to face or over the telephone, which has assisted me through my career so far.

Senior Midshipman and MidshipmanAs a member of the URNU I helped to promote awareness of the work that the Royal Navy was involved in around the world. This involved helping to organise and run events at universities and towns in the Yorkshire and Humberside region; such as Armed Forces day in Scarborough. I was trained in seamanship and navigation, and took an active role in leading the unit in my final year when I was appointed to the role of Senior Midshipman. As Senior Midshipman I was primarily responsible for the activities and conduct of all the members of the unit. This included the organising and hosting of several high profile events where local and national dignitaries were invited as guests, including both senior military figures and local professionals.I also took part in Easter and summer deployments to Scotland, the Baltic and the English Channel over my 3 years in the unit. During these times, and over weekend deployments, I was able to put my training to good use and would sail our ship to the different locations around the UK and Europe.
