I learnt so much about music subcultures, the trends, people and behaviours surrounding them and the entire process of releasing new music and the promotional timeline - radio, PR & live. I learnt about hierarchical structures in the music industry and how to forge connections and build relationships and network.I worked my first on site festival press office - at Global Gathering - working closely with a team to ensure that opportunities were captilised upon, interviews & pit runs and the importance of controlling messages, especially and crucially in crisis situations. I honed my specialist writing skills, writing press releases for music artists and music itself, crafting pitches and landing desirable, tastemaker placements. I learnt to move quickly, chase down opportunities and the hard lessons on not moving fast enough and not always getting the result you hoped and how to navigate difficult conversations with clients. The role, as I became more established within it, helped me to find my confidence and voice and begin to form a specialism in culturally led comms. Show less
