My role is to deliver a large volume of online learning content, to support our audiences in engaging with sounds from the British Library’s archives. This role covers a lot of ground. From the scoping of collections – and identifying key segues for digital storytelling – to coordinating the technical aspects of getting the content online. My team work alongside curatorial colleagues to highlight material that provides intriguing insights into a range of different topics. It is then my role to audition and select audio, feedback on commissioned articles, and write engaging copy to accompany collection material. I am further responsible for the technical delivery of sound assets on the website. This incorporates me negotiating for the prioritisation of desired items within the digitisation workflow; quality checking digital audio material; coordinating the clearance of intellectual property rights; and working with the web team to upload the audio to the appropriate server. After these stages of the workflow are complete, I am tasked with uploading all content to the Library’s content management system, Sitecore. Throughout this process, I keep a track of project progress – as well as advocate for best practice, for accessibility and online engagement, with colleagues across the Library and advocating for different approaches.

My role was designed around researching the British Library collections to identify material to encourage online engagement.This entailed authoring interpretive content for Digital Learning resources aimed at a range of audiences, as well as extensive picture research; negotiating with external bodies for copyright clearance; and maintaining and adding content within Sitecore, a content management system. I also ensured the timely delivery of the web products by working closely with curatorial, imaging and copyright colleagues. Examples of the web products I have delivered as part of this role include: Votes for Women, Windrush Stories and World War One. Through my work and the timely delivery of these products, engagement with the British Library’s online resources increased.I also worked with the Digital Content and Outreach Managers to promote our online resources via social media and through commissioning new engagement tools for targeted audiences.

My main role was to migrate content from the ‘old’ Learning webpages. This involved engaging with complex topics to deliver products, where content was reframed into coherent high-quality online resources for a wide range of learners. The duties included picture and content research; copywriting; clearing copyright and licenses; ensuring project spreadsheets were up-to-date; implementing effective filing systems and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. My other duties were to assist with the onsite-learning streams.An example of the web products I have delivered as part of this role include Asians in Britain, as well as supporting the launch of modules of Discovering Literature.
