If you're looking for a flexible, unflappable, experienced writer to turn your messages into clear copy that connects with your audience, look no further.Working with creatives and small business owners from my office in Ilkley, I bring my strategic, big picture brain to the table to create and manage content plans, and write the words that your audience will read. From blogs and newsletters to scripts, thought leadership articles, case studies and a lot more besides.I particularly enjoy turning complex, occasionally muddled and sometimes technical messages into content that makes sense and connects with the reader. And I'll always make sure it reflects your strategy, goals, tone of voice and key messages.I’ve been working as a freelancer for years now, happy using my initiative and working under my own steam but also joining forces with others and being that all-important extra pair of hands when needed. In fact, I’m as used to being dropped into a project at short notice and just getting on with it as I am working with clients over the longer term and building a solid relationship.I guess my ethos can be summed up as ‘Listen first, write second and keep the big picture in mind.’ Based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, working with businesses near and far. Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs)St.Michael'S Church Of England Primary School Oct 2016 - Sep 2017Bournemouth, United KingdomAn incredible year spent working with two children with different learning difficulties. I focused on ensuring they were happy, calm and supported in the classroom, whether that was working on work that had been set for the whole class or individually tailored activities. I spent a lot of time helping them with their phonics and reading skills, boosting their confidence and self-esteem. Relocating from Bournemouth to Yorkshire meant I had to say good-bye to this incredible school and its fabulous students and staff.

Reading Coach (Volunteer)Read Easy Feb 2016 - Sep 2017PooleHands down one of the best things I've ever done. I coached adults who needed support in learning to read, using the 'Yes I can read' phonics approach. I worked with a couple of adult males who for complex and varied reasons hadn't learned to read when they were children. It was equally challenging and rewarding spending time coaching them and seeing their confidence and reading ability grow. Supported by an incredible team I learned a huge amount and learned how lucky I was to have writing and reading confidence in my life.

Freelance Internal Communication ConsultantSelf-Employed Sep 2013 - Oct 2016(National charity) This is definitely one of those clients I'll never forget working for. Working with the marketing and communication team, one of my projects was to interview people with learning difficulties, mental health diagnoses and other problems affecting their ability to find work. It was incredibly humbling. Hearing their stories and being trusted to tell them so that they could be used by the charity to show how they helped people back into work was a huge privilege. This was one of a few projects I worked on with the marketing and communications team over the course of a couple of years. Other projects included: Writing articles and client case studies for the employee magazine and other marketing materialsWorking with the in-house designer to produce a variety of marketing materials for a range of projectsProviding practical internal communication support and advice for a global congress the charity is supporting in 2016

This involved creating internal communication plans to support the business strategy and goals through to hands on help delivering events and writing content. The second part of the role was (as part of the internal communications team) to play my part in managing print, online communications channels and face to face events including invitation only roundtable discussions with the Chief Executive and monthly Business Updates for up to 150 people.A varied role that moved between strategy and planning and getting my hands dirty! -

Investor Relations ManagerWhitbread 1996 - 2000A role that started in the corporate internal communication team before moving across to investor relations. Four years of learning about the foundations of great writing and communication and how to change and challenge the status quo. While in internal communications we made the case for saying good bye to the 80,000 monthly Whitbread News, mailed to all employees in favour of using the budget to develop an intranet (for the first time) and support Whitbread brands and managers with internal communication support and advice. All in keeping with the evolution of the multi brand 'leading leisure company'.Over in investor relations I was involved in the production of half year and annual results, corporate announcements, merger and acquisition activity and much more. A varied and intense role that saw me sat at the top table during intense M&A activity whilst also fielding calls from analysts and financial journalists. A steep learning curve that I still think back to today.
