At GM, I was tasked with working on a multitude of projects across the stack. My early work focused more on the backend & DB to import customer data, retire legacy code, and develop an internal communication app. As I grew in that role and my understanding of business needs changed, I shifted into more frontend work with a strong focus on usability & user experience, working primarily on dealerships’ inventory and sales pages. To facilitate this work, I worked directly with clients to develop user stories and define business requirements, influencing long term product direction.

I worked as a Teaching Assistant at Texas State University for five semesters, teaching computer science Foundations and Architecture. I also ran a robotics lab where I taught the fundamentals of programing and hardware through simple line-following robots. I'm passionate about teaching and love the challenge of distilling complex topics into key concepts and discovering iterative ways to explain things. This type of problem solving resonates with what I like about programming itself. These experiences have fostered strong communication skills and the ability to have constructive conversations with non-technical colleagues.

In the summer of 2015 I worked as a blacksmith at the Kit Carson Museum at Philmont Scout Ranch in Rayado, New Mexico, where staff dress in period clothing and demonstrate frontier skills and crafts. My responsibilities in this role included teaching visiting Scout troops how to safely work in the smithy, giving blacksmithing demonstrations to tour groups, and assisting in camp maintenance.

I was a teaching assistant for Dr. Bill Stapleton's Microprocessors class at Texas State University for four semesters (Spring 2013, Summer 2013, Spring 2014 and Spring 2015). My responsibilities in this role included setting up and organizing equipment and materials for labs, assisting students with troubleshooting programs during labs, and grading lab reports.

I was a summer intern for Freescale Semiconductors (now NXP Semiconductors) in the summer of 2014. As an intern, I combined preexisting tools for testing new microprocessors into a single utility that could easily be shared and updated, learned Ruby, and became familiar with best practices for using a local git.
