At my core, I have been fortunate to have had opportunities to make positive change around environments I’m in. My time with Firestone Levy Muse, where I’m labeled a contributing writer for the public release of a document implicating France in the Rwandan genocide on behalf of the country of Rwanda was transformative and beneficial. It instilled the focus on helping others in need and attempting to make positive change. Further, through Georgetown’s internship, I was able to work with class A felons who had each served at least 25 years in prison, and committed their offenses between the ages of 16-25. Because of this, their brains were not fully developed, and when appropriate we would make efforts to have them released from prison. Finally, now I’m the lead intern at the Vanderbilt Project on Unity and American Democracy. In that capacity, I have been fortunate enough to be able to work with Jon Meacham and Dean Geer to facilitate events, organize research, and create posts. The project’s intention is to unite democrats and republicans through common grounds of established facts. Although difficult at such a contentious time in our democracy, Unity is far and above one of the most important things we have if we would like it to continue!
