About Harrison P. Rahn, Ph.D.
I recently completed my doctoral studies within the Department of Chemistry at Stanford University under the direction of Dr. Paul Wender. Our research within a highly collaborative environment focused on strategic molecular design, which is manifested in projects investigating novel polyanion delivery systems and function oriented synthesis of potent antibiotic conjugates. My research culminated in three peer-reviewed publications with a fourth in preparation. I am a graduate of Tulane University where I studied Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and Chemistry with minors in Mathematics and Physics. I studied light harvesting complexes, molecular nanowire formation, organic synthesis, and supramolecular chemistry under the direction of Dr. Janarthanan Jayawickramarajah. This time of coursework and research culminated in a Master's in Chemistry. After graduating, I started at the New Orleans based technology startup, Fluence Analytics which was recently acquired by Yokogawa Electric Corporation. As an applications engineer, I discovered novel uses for the company's two flagship products, ACOMP and ARGEN, and evaluated customer-focused chemical applications for their compatibility. At Fluence Analytics I explored light scattering techniques for live monitoring of protein aggregation and polymer synthesis.Beyond chemistry, I am a member of the United States national team for karate where I have represented the U.S. on 4 occasions at World and Panamerican Championships. In October 2024 I will again represent the U.S. at the World Championships in Takasaki, Japan. When not competing, I spend my evenings mentoring two groups of students in San Bruno, CA and San Jose, CA.
Listed skills include Ecological Research, Biochemical Research, Ecology And Evolutionary Biology, Chemistry, and 9 others.

Graduate Research Assistant
As a member of the Wender Lab, I my focused is on the development of novel drug delivery platforms with direct application in emergent therapies. One focus of our subgroup is the development of antibiotics for treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens. Through this research we developed generalizable strategies to synthesize drug-transporter conjugates such as novel macrolide conjugates with expanded spectrums of activity and significantly improved potency. This work is carried out alongside development of gene delivery platforms which facilitate in vivo gene transfection, enhanced ex vivo transfection, and delivery of novel therapeutics. Both of these efforts sought to reach clinical applications while simultaneously furthering scientific endeavors in the broader fields of medicinal chemistry. Cumulatively, syntheses were designed to maximize scalability and translation to industrial settings by minimizing the use of column chromatography in favor of crystallization, precipitation, and dialysis.
Application Engineer
I designed and conducted experiments on the ACOMP and ARGEN platforms to collect meaningful data for marketing applications and hypothesis driven application notes. Using ACOMP, an autonomous live polymer reaction monitoring system, I performed reaction monitoring, analysis, and optimization of acrylates and polyurethanes in conjunction with fluidics engineering to optimize the product for consumer use. Using the ARGEN, an autonomous multi-sample Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), platform I studied protein aggregation kinetics to aid in stable formulation development
Research Assistant
I conducted research of rodent vectored disease and urban ecology under Dr. Michael J. Blum from May 2014-August 2014. During this time I developed skills related to community involvement, rodent handling, and necropsy of potentially harmful biological samples. From September 2014- June 2017 I researched organic synthesis of light harvesting complexes for biological sensing. The later work contributed to an Honors thesis and Masters thesis detailing light generating molecules and a novel methods of cellular imaging. During this research I designed, synthesized, and detailed a structure-function relationship with a new class of firefly luciferin analogues designed to report supramolecular Host-Guest complexation in vitro.
