Through work experiences and university studies, my attitude to architecture focuses on people and place; working with clients and local communities to conceive designs that support and encourage contemporary, sustainable life, while always responding to the contextual setting of the project. Since graduating from my part I, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects from more strategic executive masterplanning exercises to the design and detail of individual buildings. This includes work to existing buildings in both World Heritage Sites and conservation areas, and new build projects on complex urban infill sites. I have also participated on a number of community planning workshops aiming to engage and activate local communities. Throughout, I have worked collaboratively within a team of people, successfully developing projects to meet client expectations and shared goals.My MArch thesis project investigated the ongoing evolution of an urban block in Liverpool. The proposal involved the strategic demolition of detrimental existing building fabric, and the retrofit and new build of the rest of the block, therefore challenging the process of 21st century development through seeking incremental development. The programme envisaged a new approach to planning, engaging regulatory bodies, industry professionals and the general public, breaking the boundaries of private and public and facilitating a culture of collaboration and belonging. The thesis was awarded the John Taylor Award for Urbanism and Town & Regional Planning and nominated for the RIBA Silver Presidents Medal.
