This was a role I took on in the summer of 2021. I had no previous experience of working in the painting and decorating field, however over the last 3 years I have continued to learn a range of different skills and techniques showing that I have a good level of adaptability to new roles and willing to work hard at whatever tasks I am given. I was also required at times to be able to work independently and think for myself in new situations that I had not encountered before. I had to have good social skills and would always be polite when interacting with different customers. I had to be prepared to also make mistakes in order to get better at the job I had taken on and to build experience.

My responsibilities as a customer assistant in Sainsbury's including handling cash at checkouts, dealing with customers questions and complaints, unpacking stock and deliveries as they arrived to the store, ensuring all shelves were presented neatly, checking for sell by dates and ensuring quality and freshness of food for customers. I learnt how to work at a fast pace in a very busy environment with the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure, dealing with the general public confidently and providing a welcoming atmosphere. Working in this job helped me to improve my teamwork, communication skills and being able to multi-task.

My role here involved working in a team of six and completing green keeping jobs around the golf course to a high standard. Each day my boss would delegate me with different responsibilities to make sure that the golf course would stay well-presented and maintained to the best standard. I was always reliable to turn up on time for the early morning starts and presented appropriately for the day ahead. The job often had me working independently which I was happy to do, but when needed I was also able to work as a team with my other colleagues to get tasks done.

From the ages of 10 till 15 I worked for Clays Golf Club on the driving range each Tuesday evening from 5pm-9pm after school. The role would involve me driving round on the golf buggy collecting all golf balls from the driving range. I would then wash and clean the golf balls using the machinery provided by the golf club. Once they were clean I would dispense them back into the ball machine ready for use by the public. Alongside this I would help tidy up the golf club, such as clear out the bins and hoover up at the end of the evening. This job taught me how to work hard from an early age and how to work well under pressure during the busiest times.
