Porting, profiling, optimization and testing of Audio DSP firmware for smart speaker and TV solutions, which is licensed to external customers.

I developed embedded firmware for an Intel VLIW processor based on imaging algorithms in C, which was integrated in Intel’s Bay Trail processor family. Made high-level documents on requirements, design and use cases, which facilitated the project team to make deliverables. I was scrum master of this team, and was awarded with the ‘2016 Intel Software Quality Award’.

On August 2008, ST-NXP Wireless began operations as a joint venture made up of the wireless operations of STMicroelectronics and NXP Semiconductors. ST-Ericsson was formed on February 2009 as a joint venture of Ericsson Mobile Platforms and ST-NXP Wireless.

My main task was to ensure the competitive position of the processors on the department roadmap (EVP and R.E.A.L.), regarding the performance of the cores and ease of use of the development tools. For a design-in of an audio chip I made a simulation model of a memory cache, and used it to make detailed profiles of audio kernels. In close collaboration with other architects and designers I advised on software frameworks that customers could use to quickly build audio applications. For a DSP for 4G mobile handsets I designed new instructions that increased the processing speed. In the area of process improvement, I proposed the project requirements engineering process, and was quality auditor for internal projects.

I verified and contributed to a new instruction set simulator that used a single processor description language (PDL) to allow for modularity in 16- and 24-bit DSP architectures for audio and telecom applications.

To support decisions on the product development roadmap of the lab, I benchmarked ICs for high-end Set Top Box devices for home gateways, combining internet, phone and television functions.

As member of the section consultancy and customer support, I executed management, consultancy and design-in of projects in the audio domain for low power embedded DSPs (the R.E.A.L. & EPICS product family). These were used successfully in many consumer products of various business units, over many years. I enjoyed being trainer and writer of the corresponding technical course to support over 100 designers in the company.

I developed embedded microprocessor software for radio data communication and production line test functions for a 900 MHz analogue cordless phone. I was also responsible for planning, customer contacts, project initiation and work assignment for the design team, which delivered the reference design to many customers in Europe and Far-East.

I organized the technical evaluation of analogue and digital IC designs for digital subscriber line transmission (ISDN). By giving product presentations and solving on-site customers’ technical problems, I supported marketing and sales, and IC product engineering.
