Dean, Frank Batten School Of Leadership And Public PolicyUniversity Of Virginia Jul 2009 - Jun 2014Charlottesville, Va, UsEstablished in 2007, the Batten School is a relatively new school of public policy that focuses on the challenges of making public policy in a globalized world undergoing rapid change, and providing students with the skills they will need to be effective leaders in whatever communities they choose to serve, from the local to the global, and in whatever sectors they choose to work, including the public, private, nonprofit, and social entrepreneurial. The Batten School offers three degree programs: an accelerated MPP degree for University of Virginia undergraduates, a more usual two-year post-graduate MPP degree, and a new undergraduate degree in public policy and leadership. The Batten School is distinctive for its multidisciplinary approach to these subjects, especially its emphasis on social psychology and related disciplines as well as history, economics, and political science. I served as founding dean of the school, and also have taught courses on the changing context of public policy, political forecasting and political risk assessment, global leadership, and U.S. policy toward Asia in light of the rise of China. -
