I am currently in my second year at the University of Derby studying Sport and Exercise Science Bsc. In my first year I applied knowledge gained from my studies in A-level PE and Biology to gain a first in my first year of studies despite having to adjust to a new university-style of learning.During my time at university so far, I have taken pride in my commitment to extra-curricular activities, becoming a proud member of the university men's football and futsal teams. I formed many new friendships throughout the year as a member of both of these student-led sports clubs. Going into my second year I decided to run for a committee position on both of these, secretary on men's football and second team manager on men's futsal. I was voted into both of these positions by my peers based on the manifesto's I wrote explaining why I was the most suited for the roles. Therefore, this year I am looking forward to actively operating in these roles to ensure the clubs run smoothly and make a positive university experience for my peers who belong to these clubs.I have experience in the hospitality industry having worked at the Palmichael Restaurant since April 2021 and I am still currently employed there, working sporadically around my studies. Over my time here I have gained valuable customer service skills, learning how to work under pressure and meet the needs of customers in a fast-paced environment. I started in this role at the age of 16 and over the past 3 years have massively grown in this role often being given the role of 'host' which means I am responsible for an entire floor of the restaurant. This level of responsibility came easy to me as I feel a great sense of achievement knowing everyone was satisfied with their evening. This links to my new committee roles as I will feel a great sense of achievement knowing my peers have enjoyed their time as part of those sports clubs during this year at university. I also have experience in the production industry having worked at the Tayto Group Ltd as a packing machine operator in the summers of 2023 and 2024. During my time there I integrated into a working environment with an ethnically diverse workforce and was successful in building positive relationships even within the small spaces of time I was employed there. I learned valuable skills such as problem-solving, communication and initiative. I was also often praised on my work-ethic due to my consistent positive attitude towards work and also working at the Palmichael restaurant alongside working at Tayto.I would love to connect!
