As part of a summer scholarship, I was asked to produce a research report that studied the impact of the current stable staff crisis on the UK equine industry. This involved a critical review of literature as well as interviewing industry leaders (NFU, BHA, BRS) and current stable staff. As a result, I was able to conclude the report with my own recommendations to improve the professionalism of the stable staff role, presenting my findings to a panel of Regional Directors.

I have the responsibility of leading a team of co-workers in a catering unit at such events as The Festival of Speed, Cheltenham Festival and Twickenham. In each instance I would have to run the unit with the opportunity to delegate specific jobs to co-workers. I am required keep the unit clean, and make sure the food is consistently served to a high standard. To ensure this I have learnt to keep my team motivated whilst working long and often anti-social hours.

Attending events to sell expensive, top end children’s clothing to a vast spectrum of society. It is essential to communicate clearly and confidently so that the customer receives the best service possible. I am also required to have responsibility for large sums of cash. In order to do this I am discreet and trustworthy.

I was able to assist the auctioneers whilst they were assessing a horse's conformation and action. By supplementing this to the information gained from horses' breeding, value estimations for individual lots could be made. As well as this, I assisted during the sale by bid spotting.
