During this assignment I worked primarily on a systems genetics study examining the genetic influences of RNA expression in the context of glucose metabolism in brown adipose tissue. During this time I made significant improvements in my coding skills using R, and gained new experiences using other softwares like Cytoscape. As a research assistant I presented my findings, wrote progress reports, developed graphics, and collaborated with a number of other research professionals.

POLS is a company that offers high complexity urine drug screening. The services are placed in the physician's home office, and include a lab tech and a Mindray BS-200. At present, I screen up to 30 urine samples a day both accurately, and precisely. I also perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance so as to keep the analyzer running efficiently. This includes cleaning, Quality control testing, calibrating, and parts replacement.

As a researcher 1 I did everything from media preparation and glass wear sterilization to designing and completing my own organic drug synthesis. The purpose of the experiment was to synthesize the molecule and test its effectiveness as a possible tuberculosis drug. The entire synthesis included three steps 1. Carboxyl azide substitution, 2. Deils-Alder reaction 3. Azide reduction. (Specifics are intellectual property of Dean Crick Ph. D and his lab). Experiments included using common organic synthesis reaction protocols and separation protocols. Analysis was done using TLC, Mass Spectroscopy, H and C NMR, and IR Spectroscopy. Show less
