During an additional summer placement, I was able to engage in tasks in other areas such as bench testing, and reviewing technical documentation received by the customer. I had to compare the customer's requirements to what the company could comply with, and if any compromises could be made.

During my placement year I was working in the role of a systems engineer. My main responsibility throughout the year was the management of a RF test setup which is used to analyse the RF performance of an ECU receiver. Some of my daily tasks included designing the Vector CANoe configuration to be used with the ECU, run tests when changes were made to an ECU, provide assistance to any engineer when necessary and develop the test setup further with new features.Other responsibilities included: Managing tasks as part of a team to prioritise, and evaluate the time needed and importance. Planned a series of vehicle testing for a customer, recorded, analysed and presented results in a graphical format to senior engineers/managers and customers.

Belfast

Taking bets for customers on a wide variety of sports and paying out any winning bets. I also provide customers with any information they require such as results, how a certain bet works, or any other query.

Roles included:Serving customers at the checkout, Answering questions and offering help to customers, stocking shelves as needed, ensuring store is tidy free of hazards, periodic stock checks, and cash handling.

In this role, as part of a Nuffield Research placement, I work shadowed a Faults and Emergencies Engineer, who showed me how problems are dealt with in the office, and out onsite working with repairmen and linesmen. I was tasked with a project on the topic of bird collisions with overhead power lines. I investigated and researched what problems this can cause, as well as the possible solutions to deal with it, such as installing high visibility objects, and deterrents to keep birds away from the lines.
