When you're a bank that lives on a phone, the words are a huge part of the customer experience. I still look after our writing team, working to make sure all the words we produce – inside and out – work hard for Monzo and our customers. Now my role also covers joining the dots on our customer experience, so dealing with Monzo is just as great whether.

I started as an Editor at The Writer, and worked my way up to being a Senior Writer heading my own Customer Experience department.My work fell into 3 main buckets:- Tone of voice stuff, like creating and rolling out guidelines for brands including Santander, NatWest, Savills, British Gas, Barclaycard and Royal London- Customer experience stuff, like.

I spent most of my time:- copyediting- proofreading- copywriting- looking after sub-editors- abusing the free hot chocolate machine.

I put a whole lot of numbers into databases, then printed off cheques and mailed them out (while trying not to freak out about the huge sums of money I was technically handling).

I answered phones, did filing, photocopied, franked mail, arranged couriers. All the stuff you should learn how to do in your first office job.

Three weeks knocking on doors in sunny Cirencester for St John Ambulance. We raised a lot of money, and I found out that I never ever want to do that job again.
