Design Engineer
CurrentAt Trelleborg Offshore UK (TOUK) I am a lead design engineer with a focus on the design and development of bespoke plastic and composite components for use in the offshore oil and gas industry. I spent the first year and a half of my career with TOUK working within the Cable and Flowline department. Here my focus was on high volume orders of Polyurethane products. This gave me experience in optimising designs to be as cost efficient as possible by minimising material volumes and simplifying tool design. I gained a large amount of experience in interpreting customer specifications and ensuring that the product met all requirements.I was involved in all stages of the products life cycle from bidding phase where I designed and modelled our solution in Autodesk Inventor, a 3D CAD package, production where I oversaw quality issues and factory acceptance tests, and post-delivery support where I produced design reports, test reports, and installation and handling guides. As a design engineer I am constantly looking to develop improvements in our products. This has included testing alternative antifoul products and successfully introducing a 75% cost reduction in Trelleborg’s strapping solution. More recently I have moved to the Buoyancy department after being headhunted internally following a successful collaboration project. I jumped at the opportunity to further test myself with new technical challenges.
