Throughout my second year of university, I took on a part-time job working in a local pub. Due to the small size of the venue and the local nature of the establishment, I became very connected to frequent regulars. This close environment allowed me to hone my communication skills, developing an ability to interact with customers one-on-one coupled with a strengthened ability to sort out customer and workplace conflicts.

Working throughout the summer at The Dutch Mill Hotel in Aberdeen thoroughly improved my skills of customer interaction and workload management. Due to the size of the outdoor seating at The Dutch Mill, I was required to consistently pour and deliver drinks to over 100 table’s whilst simultaneously taking and delivering food orders. This large amount of constant stress allowed me to develop these skills mentioned above thus, making me able to make correct decisions and provide adequate customer care regardless of how busy an organisation is.

Additionally, my time spent in and around boarding houses within North London Collegiate School has furthered my ability to interact with children from a more personal level. I have achieved an increased ability to aid children in social and academic needs, whilst being able to provide the care and support similar to regular home life. Within my Boarding house responsibilities, I organised a one-to-one reading programme for non-English speakers. This programme was developed to ease classwork and homework for non-English speaking students who are learning in an English-based education system.

My love of swimming has led me to complete my Amateur Swimming Association, British level 1 coaching assistant qualification. This allowed me to understand and appreciate the thought and planning needed in order to coordinate and control swimming sessions, as well as learn and develop the skills required to interact with children. The course was broken into different stages developing all areas needed to excel as a coach. I am confident and can deliver the swimming pathway used for creating a child within the water as well as the fundamental movements, core aquatic skills and components of a stroke. Moreover, this award taught me the appropriate ways in which to conduct myself and interact with the children around me, making them feel safe within the coaching environment and enjoy their learning experience.
